South Oldham vs North Oldham

Featured Replies

This has been a great rivalry game for the past 12 years, and the two teams are tied in the series, 6-6.

South, however, has won the past two meetings (14-0 in 2015 and 41-7 last year) and will be heavily favored on the road this year.

The Dragons are fresh off a bye week, and before that, an upset win over the Doss Dragons. QB Drew Zaubi can beat you with his legs or his arm, and FB Keaton Martin is capable of amazing games - he had over 1,500 yards rushing last year as a freshman, despite not starting most of the games. Two weeks ago, the South defense rebounded from the week 1 loss to CAL by limiting the explosive Doss offense to just 14 points.

On the other hand, North is searching for that elusive first win under second year coach Joe Gamsky. Gamsky has assembled a talented, but young, coaching staff and you get the feel that the Mustangs will ultimately do just fine under this leadership. But sometimes it takes a while to get the "icebreaker", and right now, North is laboring under the burden of a school record 17-game losing streak that is third-longest in the state. Compounding the issue are injuries to some key personnel... Still, North has shown the potential to be explosive; QB Tanner McCoy throws a pretty ball and is very mobile. WR Brendan Rose is very talented; good at getting open and good at getting to the ball.

The question is whether or not North will be able to get the running game going. Despite having Connor Newhouse in the backfield, with legitimate track-caliber speed, the Mustangs have been unable to carve out the holes necessary for Newhouse to take advantage of his speed.

At the end of the day, however, this game has had a tendency to be extremely close over the years. Look for a high-energy, intense game tomorrow night.

I hate to hear that.

Did they change systems with the new coach?

They fired a great coach in Billy Martin who had North Oldham one hailmary away from the state title game in 2014. Since they fired him they have not won a game with the losing streak sitting at 17 games in a row. Billy Martin ran a wing-t system and his teams were always hard nosed. They were in the spread as of last year with the new coach

That's a tough transition from Wing-T to spread.

They may want to look at letting the principal go if he can have no better judgement and decision making ability than to let a great coach like Billy Martin go.

17 game losing streak, North Oldham may want to look at trying to schedule Berea or Jenkins next year, heard they both needed a home coming opponent.

Make that 18 in a row...South with a running clock.
