Mayfield 55 Fulton Co. 14

Congratulations, Cardinals. Keep on keepin' on.

Congrats to the Cards...

Had a great time at Mayfield and meet a lot of nice people there. Your QB #18 is a player and his family are really good people. Good luck to him at the next level. Without a doubt, Fulton has to be one of the worst coached high School football teams I have seen in a long, long time.

As I predicted in the pregame thread, the Cards scored often and early in route to a running clock. This one was not as close as the score which in itself was not close. Fulton County tacked on a meaningless score with a minute and change to go in the game. DJ Roberson took a nasty hit to the neck that resulted in a trip to the hospital courtsey of the local ambulance service. Radio reports on my way home indicated he will be okay but will be held over night for observation. Fulton County had some nice athletes but never got them all working together in harmony. On the first series of the game on their own 15 yard line Fulton County went for a 4TH and 2 and failed to convert. This set the tone for the rest of the night. I still have no idea why the Fulton coach decided to go for it on his own 15 on the first series of the game, a bone headed play. The 2nd half saw a couple of Fulton players ejected after unsportsman like conduct calls. The Cards racked up around 420 yards total offense on the night, 131 of it was through the air as QB Shelton went 7-12 with 2 TD passes and he also rushed for another 143 yards. Mayfield ran their district record to a perfect 45-0 since joing class A in 1995. Mayfield will enjoy a off week next week while the school is on fall break which is great news seeing that I'm goona go to Micka Mouse's house for a little R & R and would have hated to mis the Birds play. Enough of my ramblings for now, more maybe later.

Wish I had seen earlier post oldguy, would have loved to have had a chance to meet up with you. Maybe if your daughter decides on Murray State we can get you down again. Glad you had a good time. Gotta agree with you on that coach, he sealed the deal all by himself on the first series

Yes it indeed was a bone head play, and worst yet, Fulton looks to have some horses on their team. Fulton just seemed to play backyard football all night long and the unsportmen like fouls showed me that their coach clearly doesn't undertands the game. Your QB #18 as I said earlier is a player as is the Frosh RB #6. Man can that young man motor. WR #80 was open all night long, and Mayfield could if they had wanted scored up to 75/80 points. BTW the best part of the game was your band.....WOW they are really, really good.....The best HS band I have heard this year at any HS game.... Congrats to them also.....

BTW she will be going to MSU in 07. She was accepted earlier in the month, and loves the place..... Not sure if it's the school, or if it' because she will be 315 miles from Dad.....:D :D

Again thanks to all the Mayfield fans for being so nice to Theoldguy......

Well then we may have to get you a red hat and get you down to a few games. I too enjoyed the band tonight, maybe she fell for the lake, not another lake in this part of the country that can compare to KY-Barkley and LBL. The frosh RB has suprised and impressed us all, he was pressed in to service after the starter went down in a scrimmage just before the season started. We think he may turnout to be a dandy. Shelton our QB is a player, I was disapointed he has not recieved more attention, his stats have been pretty impressive all season long.

Wow. That is just unreal. You gotta figure sometime in the last 13 years that Mayfield would have an off night during a district game, illness to key player, SOMETHING. But they just don't lose in district.

I'll never understand why Fulton got rid of Mancel Elam.

Enjoy your week off, 'Pick.

Good to hear the Roberson boy is going to be fine, that hit had us all worried.

Do you think that the Fulton County players will think twice about trying to taunt Mayfield like they did last night? I really thought there was going to be trouble at the 50 yard line before the game.

It just shows the class these players have, the coach should step in on situations like that and controll that kind of stuff. Kids that act like that IMO don't really want to play football. They should respect any team they come in to play on any given night and focus on the task at hand.

I seriously doubt that would have happened with Coach Elam still on the sidelines...just another indication to the higher ups at Fulton County Board of Education as to what an idiotic move it was on their part to want to cut in half Coach Elam's salary after what all he done for the program not only as a player in the early to mid 90's but also as their head coach. Coach Elam had those boys playing hard but with class...because if not he would sit them on the bench. I doubt that the Pilots want to see the Cards again in the playoffs.

Good job Cards of coming out and taking care of business on the short week of practice and the emotional win over Tilghman.
