I don't know that a loss makes Ryle a pretender. Now a 70-0 loss isn't going to look good but considering most teams have been playing for 2nd place against Trinity for the last decade or so I think Ryle will be fine. If they can run the ball some and Jake(new QB) can NOT throw a bunch of int's against the Rocks it will be an okay night for them.

 

For Ryle its: You have to play better to get better and Trinity is better! Just stay healthy and find weaknesses to work on for week 1 against Cov Cath.

The big question is can Ryle stop the Trinity offense?

I still say it's just a scrimmage, who knows where these two teams will be at the end of the season

That is the question. Can the new LB's step in and play? Can the line get a surge, Can the DB's continue to shine as they have in 7-v-7? The DB's have to be the tallest in NKY maybe all of KY. The have a 6'3 safety in Selby and two other DB's are 6'2 each.

I think the truth of the matter is a little more in the middle between my launch and your subdued rendition.

 

Either Ryle is going to be competitive or Ryle is not going to be competitive. It is one or the other, all or nothing.

It's a scrimmage! Yes it will be great for the boys to beat on someone else other than a teammate.

 

Thinking these coaches will keep this game pretty vanilla. And i look for a lot of folks to walk away from this game impressed with the Shamrocks speed at the skill positions and execution in the trenches.

Right, a Scrimmage with the Champs and Preseason #1 Team in 6A that will let the Ryle Raiders know exactly where they stand.

It is just a scrimmage but in my experience Scrimmages between really strong programs end up being a "war" for about a half of a football "game."

 

I am sounding old now but I think back to all the scrimmages we had at Beechwood when I played and I can tell you we always scrimmaged teams bigger than us and in most cases better than us. I can also tell everyone that we players at Beechwood treated those scrimmages like games. Sounds a little arrogant, but it was about bragging rights too. We were not only there to win the scrimmage but win every play of the scrimmage.

 

Anywho... Trinity is Trinity, not only the top team/program in Kentucky but one of the premier football programs in America. And if you play for/coach at Ryle and you are not treating this Scrimmage like a game that matters (not the score) then you might as well pack it in for the year and get out the round balls.

I understand what you mean but a season ending injury in a practice, a few weeks before kickoff is brutal.

 

Still I would expect both teams to trade punches for a little bit. It's still football and there are still ego's, practice or not. In my experience over in OH, during scrimmages sometimes star players are very tentative.

The best way to get injured is to do anything at less than 100%.
