Louisville Burger Week

Featured Replies

A little bird told me that Mussel & Burger Bar doesn't participate because they don't want to draw attention to the fact that they advertise (or at least at one time did advertise) using Kentucky Proud certified beef, when they actually don't. This whole event is put on by the Kentucky Beef Council, so the offerings listed as locally sourced and Kentucky Proud better have the paperwork to back that up.

Similarly, Game doesn't participate in this because even though their entrees are 90% burgers, they don't offer many beef burgers to begin with...and their beef isn't local.

That makes sense. I didn't know there was a local component to it.

Their burgers are still better than everyone else. :lol2:

I think it's a toss-up between Mussel & Burger Bar and Sidebar downtown. Grind is good, but overrated.

I think the burgers at Kern's Korner on Bardstown are fantastic for the $5.50 price point. For any NKY folks reading this thread (or Louisville folks who wander up to NKY/Cincinnati from time to time @Getslow ), Kern's Korner burgers are comparable to Herb & Thelma's. Same exact premise, anyway.

Haven't had Sidebar yet, I'll have to check it out!

This thread is making me hungry.

Love the burgers at both Kern's Korner and at the Bambi Bar right across the street. I'll also go to bat for Burger Boy over near UofL for the exact same reason. I've hit up late night food at Juanita's Burger Boy post-game on many, many occasions.

As for the higher-end-but-still-actually-beef burgers, I agree that both Mussel and Burger Bar and Sidebar are outstanding.

The bison burger at Proof on Main is, as you'd expect, a class above. It's just silly.

Go to Herb & Thelma's on Pike Street in Covington and get a burger. You'll like it. I promise.

They're all grilled on the flat-top that's been operated behind the bar since 1939. There's no copying the flavor of 80 years worth of seasoning on a griddle like that. One of my best friends mans the bar (and griddle) once a week. He said he's taken their patty's home and cooked them in a cast-iron skillet on his stove, and the taste just isn't there. It's legitimately the flat-top...which has now been literally written into the deed for the building.

Sold. I've become a frequent guest at Zip's in Cincinnati for the exact same reason.

A tip for a fabulous afternoon in Covington: call ahead to pick up a Herb & Thelma’s burger, to take to Braxton Brewery! Mmmmmm

They're opening a deck on the roof at Braxton tomorrow night, FYI.

Khalil's and The Sports & Social Club stand out to me.

Lexington's Burger Week looks like it was pretty awesome.
