Pleasure Ridge Park 3 Highlands 2

CCH fan. Really thought if Highlands won this, they'd win it all. Their side of bracket is loaded. SK got the easier side for sure.

Mr Doty, didn't know you at all but great 4 years. Best of luck to you.

Birds had runner picked off in 7th but the throw to 2nd was errant. Kid scored winner.

Same error happened in regional play. E6 to start game scored. Rom 1 ER.

Dallas Glass pitched a nice game. Big Donnie must be a proud daddy!

Glass did a great job. Changes speeds well....kept folks off balance. PRP squared up on the ball all night. Hitting team...Good luck to PRP.

I'm assuming you though PRP's run in the seventh was unearned, but official stats did NOT give an error there.

I don't think the throw would have been in time, let alone being off line (you can be off line and NOT get an error if SS/2B was standing off the bag).

Here's the official stats. They have Rom with two earned runs.

Highlands ip h r er bb so ab bf np

Drew Rom 7.0 9 3 2 2 8 28 32 108

Pleasure Ridge Park 3rd

McDonald tripled down the rf line (1-0 B).

Akbar reached on a fielder's choice to pitcher, bunt, RBI (1-0 B); McDonald scored.

Pleasure Ridge Park 7th

McDonald lined out to ss (2-0 BB).

Akbar walked (3-1 BBKBB).

Akbar advanced to second, failed pickoff attempt.

Blaszczyk flied out to rf (0-0).

Rucker intentionally walked.

Cavanaugh singled to right field, RBI (0-2 KKF); Rucker advanced to third; Akbar scored.

Great game. 2 very good teams with excellent pitching. Kid from PRP velocity change was phenomenal. Comes down to a few plays one way, or other. Good luck to PRP. They will be tough for anyone to handle. A lot of speed, and if that kid tonight was there #2, they should be in good shape for next weekend.

Then wouldn't the runner have been credited with a stolen base?

You are correct. It is a SB.

You are correct. It is a SB.

Clyde, since the official scorer didn't list it as a SB, then it has to be a error! I mean, it is either a SB or an Error. Runner can't move to 2nd base on a failed Pick off attempt without it being the one or the other, correct? My guess is the computer scoring app, made a error!

I don't think the app credited him with a stolen base.

Rust for Highlands had a stolen base as well (took second, but PRP didn't contest it because they were worried about the runner at third). The play by play shows a stolen base for Rust, but the linescore does not:

Either way, the stats show just one error for each team. Highlands' error is obviously the one for the first inning.

Another statkeeping message board said you can NOT credit a catcher with a throwing error with a pickoff UNLESS the throw was on time and on line (no guarantee he would have been out) and he advanced an extra base (runner did NOT).

Rust shows stolen base in play by play. Akbar shows he arrived at second (via failed pickoff). NEITHER listed with a stolen base in line score/stats (only in play by play for one).

Think there's more a problem with the app than how they scored it.

Here's a thread (by HS stat keepers) talking about how to score a failed pickoff:

pickoff attempt - earned or unearned run? | High School Baseball Web

the player advancing with the runner on 3rd is called Defensive Indifference I think. Second, Glass can also hit the ball and he's only a sophomore. I had the pleasure of watching him play with my son with the Hornets growing up. Great kid.
