McClure started game one of the Regional as well.

If UL isn't starting McKay why isn't UK going with Hjelle instead of the Thompson. I think UK has to win the game Hjelle pitches to have a chance. I'd rather that not be against McKay.

I agree. They've used Hjelle as their series opening starter all season. Not sure why they'd change that up now.

He had 35 pitches over 3.1 to close out the NC State GM7 on MON night. 4 days rest is better than 3 days rest considering the 107 pitches he made last FRI over 7.0 against Ohio.

Some would view that as a compromise between "throwing off" against an allegedly inferior opponent in Radford and going with McKay. By keeping them on their regular rest since last week they don't disrupt anything and McKay is still assured of getting to pitch.

They are also a slightly better offensive club when McClure pitches since Ellis can play 3B, McKay can play 1B and ? can DH. (Would assume Snider will DH, but never know with a LHP for UK). When McKay pitches, Fitzgerald plays 3B and has struggled in the last half of the season at the plate (which is not unusual for a true FR). Would be interesting if McD DH'd for Fitzgerald in the field tomorrow when McKay pitches. Makes for a nightmare scorebook keeping track of things when McKay comes out (and presumably goes to 1B), but could be done.

Thompson has started both games against UofL this season and not done well. I just don't think he's the best option if you're wanting to get the series started off right.

I don't like the Cats chances if they falter in game 1. Tonight's game is large for the Cats' hopes.

Game 1 is about to be over before the end of the 1st inning.

Thompson is self-destructing on the mound. 2 hits, a HBP, and a throwing error.

Louisville up 1-0 with them loaded and only 1 out.

Rough start for UK so far. Cards have hit a few balls really hard while Cats barely could get a ball in play in the top of the first.

2-0 after 1 inning

Cats shoot themselves in the foot. Runner on 3rd 2 outs after a failed sac bunt attempt and a runner thrown out trying to advance on a wild pitch....

Rough inning for Carson there. He's struggled in the past and has made up for it later, hopefully he'll come through again.

New Pitcher of the Cats in now.

5-0 Louisville. Game is all but over. Cats will have to take 2 in a row, including beating McKay. In other words, ain't happening.

UK has them right where they want them now...Seriously though, the Cats are in major trouble against an excellent UL team.

Cats were able to bring the tying run to the plate in the 9th, but fall 5-2.

Going to take an epic upset to reach Omaha now.
