There were 15 nominees for scholarships this year, a record number, and I only wish we could have given out more.....MANY deserving young ladies. These Scholarships are based on grades, academic achievement, sport achievement, community service, and coaches comments.

Congrats to all the ladies for a job well done!

Before the Awards presentation, we recognized 3 Head Coaches.

Rob Coffey - Highlands (Career victory 100)

Jeff Morgan - Simon Kenton (Career victory 150)

Denny Barnes - Newport Catholic (Career victory 200)

We also gave framed certificates of appreciation and achievement to two Head Coaches who will be "hanging it up" after this season.

Roddy Stainforth - Dixie Heights Roddy has been a very well respected coach in NKY since taking over the Dixie softball program in 2010. Along with those duties and teaching, he has been the varsity boy's basketball assistant coach. He will now take over as the boy's varsity head coach in 2017.

Denny Barnes - Newport Catholic Denny is the only coach in the history of the NewCath fastpitch program, coming over from a 12 stint as NewCath JV boy's baseball head coach. In his 1st season, 2006, his team went 5-15 with a bunch of former stand-out slow-pitch players, however in 2007 his team had the 3rd best record in NKY (24-11), made the final 8 of the All A State tourney, and the semi-finals of the 9th Region tourney.

I have had the privilege of being a member of his staff for the past 9 years. Coming from a baseball and slow-pitch background I thought I knew all I needed to know to coach girls fastpitch.....well boy was I wrong. I've learned a wealth of things from Coach Barnes and I'm forever grateful.

My apologies to Rachel, I forgot to add this in my original post.

Sr. Kennedy Baugh - Notre Dame and Jr. Maclai Branson - Ryle will be representing NKY in the East-West All-Star game later in June, Congrats to both.

I've noticed at least one team in N.Ky doesn't have any players representing them and there might be more. Is there a reason why some schools don't have players mentioned?

Congrats to the Gabbard girl who is CRUSHING this year

Sr. Kennedy Baugh

How do they know that already? Is that another "you must be part of the coaches association" thing?

A big congrats to all the award winners, two very good coaches hanging it up and will be missed, best of luck to both, two guys that have committed a lot of time to there programs.

I see now Northern Kentucky Coaches Association. Thought it was an All-Regional deal and couldn't understand how they could vote with teams still playing and regionals not having been played. My mistake and nevermind!

I hate to see Coach Barnes go. Very nice man whom I've only met once. You could tell that his players loved and respected him. I know the torch must be passed Hopefully his replacement will carry on what he has tried to build. Good Luck and good job, to both of these coaches. One thing I will say of the Newport Catholic girls that we talked to and played against. They were all very polite and were playing hard. You can't always teach that, but you can demand effort. Just from seeing those girls can tell they knew what the coaching staff expected from them. :thumb:

I prettied it up for you:
