I always thought the 56 game streak was sort of .............IDK just a not all that significant thing because it can only occur during the season which is limited to 162 games. To me if someone hit in 30 to end a season and 35 to start the next season it would be a better accomplishment but would not be recognized as one.

 

So I think the highest average in a 56 game stretch is the better accomplishment.

Actually it would be recognized if it spanned two seasons. Several guys in the all time lust have streaks that were over two seasons, the last being Jimmy Rollins in 2005-2006.
