Who is worse - our elected representatives or their supporters?

Is it possible for someone from the other side to have a good policy that should be implemented?

Can you give credit to someone on the other side for an accomplishment?

Elected. Not even close because they actually have a vote on the issues. The Partisan politics get our country no where.

Do the elected officials do what they do because they have to? In other words, do what their supporters want so they get re-elected?

I can. I have. I have voted both sides of the aisle all of my life. Probably 50-50. Posted my displeasure with those I voted for and those I've voted against. I've also been supportive of decisions of people I originally had problems with.

They think they have to, but I don't think they do. They are "Party before the People". Hypothetically, if the Republicans pass HealthCare and everybody gets better insurance because of it, will the democrat voters be mad? Will people be mad if they pay less tax? Will people be mad if they have a good job?

If elected officials want to get relected they need to find ways to make people's lives better. The minority party won't do that because the minority party wants back in power and it would make the majority party look good.

I believe this has been what I've seen for the last 25 years or so from both political parties. Good post.

One of the things that caused me to start this thread is reading posts here on BGP. I believe there are some posters on here who would denigrate Obama or Trump respectively if one of them cured cancer. I believe there are posters here who believe Democrats or Republicans, depending on the poster's affiliation, have never done anything right.

Is this because partisanship or because we don't agree with their actions?

If Trump passed single payer. I've said I'd buy a Trump hat.

Partisanship by elected officials is much worse because it creates gridlock in Washington. Voters may threaten to pull their vote or try to persuade the elected official they voted for, but in the end it's still the elected official who decides to reach across the aisle for what's best for the country. Or that is how it was supposed to work.
