37 District/2006-2007

Please tell me your picks and what reasoning behind it. Here is mine.

1. Brossart - Too many weapons back from last year (Uebel, Cooper, etc.)

2. Scott - Lost Howard & McCord, but have 3 scorers back in Sharp, Quigley, & Miller)

3a Silver Grove - Cory Pelle is a all district & region player with a good supporting cast.

3b Campbell Co. - Some good players returning

5. Calvary - good player in Tyler Baker, but a severe drop off after him.

Brossart should be the class of the district, and will challenge for the 10th Region title. 2 through 4 could be anybody's guess.

Silver Grove's backcourt could be the best in the district. They need to improve on the boards and defensively to duke it out with the big boys. They will be tested early as they open at home vs. Brossart, which is the Mustangs first trip to the Grove in years.

They will also be tested when they go on the road and play Scott on 12/19.

Should be a pretty good game.

1. Brossart

2. Scott/ SG/ Campbell

3. Scott/ SG/ Campbell

4. Scott/ SG/ Campbell

5. Calvary

Who knows? All 3 of those (Scott, SG, CCHS) will be close together. Scott has the best overall backcourt, SG has the best overall player, and Campbell has the tallest frontcourt.

I have an issue with this. Corey Pelle alone makes Silver Grove's backcourt the best. The combo that Scott has is nice but no comparison to what Pelle alone can bring to a game.

Pelle is best individual player in district but don't know if he has the supporting cast to put them at #2. Think #2 is between Scott & Campbell and that one is too close too call.

I agree with that. I do believe that Scott is a better overall team. Simply put Brossart is the best team in this district by far and then you have everyone else.

Pelle may end up being the best player in the district, but he does not bring more to a game than Scott's backcourt of Sharp & Quigley does.

Sharp & Quigley are good players but they had the advantage last year of playing with Howard. Teams this year are going to game plan for stopping those two players. Miller is going to have to guard big people all year.

Cambell County has good size returning and I think that will give Scott problems. Thats why i call this one a toss up at this time. However, if Scott can get some consistent scoring from some one other than those three and a little bit of play from the bench I would be inclined to give them the edge for the #2 spot.

I agree Howard was absolutely huge for the Eagles over the past couple of years and without him and really no inside presence at all, it is going to be a lot tougher for the Scott guards to produce the way they have. There going to really have to shoot the ball well this year to win and in games where they play good teams with some size they will have to shoot the ball excellent just to stay in it.

I totally agree with you that #2 is close between Scott and Campbell Co. CC's size will hurt Scott as you stated, but Scott will have quicker people and be able to shoot the ball better from the outside. Should be a pretty good game. Hopefully Scott will have the advantage by playing CC at home this year.

Couldn't have said it any better.

I think the big question for Scott is will Sharp have to do too much? Is he going to have to bring the ball up the floor and still be looked to score? He is a good rebounding guard and I wouldn't be surprised to see him lead the team in rebounding this year.

Will Sharp and Quigley have enough confidence in their teammates that when they are doubled to throw the ball to Miller in the corner or Smith on the wing for the open shot?

I really believe that if Sharp & Quigley are doubled, they will have the confidence to pass the ball to Miller or Smith for an open shot.

I think Sharp, Quigley, and Miller will each have a good season, but the other 2 starters along with the bench will need to step up and do their part in order for Scott to have a successful year.
