72 people from countries on Trump's ban list

Featured Replies

I am aware of my brilliance but I do appreciate you acknowledging it. It gives me the warm and fuzzies for you to recognize my superior knowledge and brilliant analysis.

From the article.........

"Of the 72 people, the study found that 17 entered as refugees, three as students, one on a diplomatic visa while 10 were lawful permanent residents and 25 eventually became U.S. citizens.

The breakdown of convictions per country is:

Somalia: 20

Yemen: 19

Iraq: 19

Syria: 7

Iran: 4

Libya: 2

Sudan: 1"

This tells me that while you made a horrible attempt at analysis in your post the fact remains that the 200 Americans were already here and this article doesn't give us any information on those 200 people. So while you provided an example of one American born terrorist you can't give any information on the other 199 Americans so your post falls flat on its face. We should ban all of the countries that sent the remaining 308 terrorists into America if keeping Americans safe is truly the goal. Then we can focus our efforts on finding and killing the homegrown terrorists. Simple logic to me but like you said, I am brilliant.

I fully agree! We should ban travel to and from all Muslim-majority nations for citizens who cannot be properly vetted, regardless of their refugee status. American immigration policies should be made and executed to benefit and protect American citizens.

No "world citizen" has any legal right to immigrate to our country. Immigration to this country is an honor and a privilege. Those who do not recognize and appreciate that fact, and those who are unwilling to take a dip into the American melting pot, deserve to have the door slammed shut in their face.

Now you are catching on. When reading this article that number of 200 Americans convicted for terrorist acts is alarming and should be the full focus the government. The ones that are wolves in sheeps clothes will do us more harm in the long run. Close the doors of America to every foreign country and not just the Muslim countries. We have to shut down all immigration and clean up our own house. Until then trouble looms.

I am not one who believes in throwing out the baby with the wash. We should be allowing more well qualified immigrants into this country, not fewer. Well educated foreign nationals with great job prospects or money to invest in this country should be welcomed with open arms. My point is that immigration should be used to benefit this country and no consideration should be given to the needs of those seeking admission to this country.

If allowing an immigrant into this country is in the best interests of this country and its citizens, then there is no reason to deny that person entrance. If it is not in our own national self-interest, then applicants for immigration should be denied entrance, regardless of race, religion, or country of origin.

This nation's government should not be embarrassed or ashamed to act in our own national self interest. That is what federal employees are being paid to do.

This report says that 580 people have been arrested for terrorist acts since 9/11. It says 380 of them were foreign born. That means 200 of them are Americans and 308 of them came from countries not on the banned list. Since 72 of them came from the 7 countries on the banned list then it means that America needs to be on the banned list as well as the countries that the 308 foreign born terrorists came from.

It is the most flawed argument a person can have. So because America has bad people or Americans committ crime. We should let everyone in. It is an insane stance.

I'm just going to assume for now that you are simply responding without reading the whole thread.

I don't think we should let anyone in for any reason. We should close the doors to everyone and heal our sick nation ourselves. Once we have accomplished that then and only then should we reopen the process of immigration.

Our problems in this country are self-inflicted. As long as liberals are able to get legislation passed to "help" the poor by robbing the middle and upper worker classes, generations of poverty-stricken dolts will keep this nation in steady decline.

By allowing motivated immigrants into this country, including those with poor Engiish skills who are eager to learn our language and assimilate, we will never have a shortage of examples of disadvantaged people achieving the American dream.

Whenever I begin to feel that the deck is stacked against me, I think about my poor Irish ancestors who helped build this country - but I also think about black African and Vietnamese boat people who came to this country with nothing and became successful beyond my wildest dreams.

Those are the immigrants who made this country great - not the sad sacks who come here because of the lure of government handouts with no intention of assimilating and becoming productive citizens.

I mean his EO while controversial was legal. The 9th's written denial was more flawed than Trump's EO. It bacically contradicted multiple precedents.

There you go with facts again.

Wow. All I can say is wow. Two courts and four judges have ruled against Trump and said the ban is illegal. Those are facts. As it stands right now, the ban is illegal. Fact.

Have you read the ruling from the 9th? Calling it flawed is nicest thing I can say.

In its current incarnation, it is illegal.

Fact.

As to the ban, here is where I stand. I am fine with a higher level of vetting. The more diligence the better because we know these terrorists are trying hard to find an opening. I also want this ban/vetting done in a way that is legal and honors the very roots of our nation as an immigrant nation. I want innocent people who are following our rules to have the opportunity to make our country better. Like it or not, immigrants are a necessary piece to our economic success.

I don't see how anyone can say Trump did not flub this up. Even his own Homeland Security Director admitted they made mistakes. Trump needs to go back to the drawing board and get this done right.

In its current incarnation, it is illegal.

Fact.

Actually, that is not a fact. No ruling on the legality of the order has been made. The finding by the most liberal federal District Court in the country (and the court whose decisions are most frequently overturned on appeal) was that the plaintiffs have a reasonable chance to prevail on the merits of their suit.

The Trump administration has been temporarily barred from enforcing the ban because of the potential injury to the plaintiffs that would occur if the EO is ultimately found to be unconstitutional.

Good point Dino.

A motivated immigrant could still have bad intentions. I don't discriminate. Lock all non-Americans out of the country. We have plenty of people here now. Keep everyone out until our country is great again. Once we are great again then open the doors back up. We shouldn't have to decide who is motivated and pure and who isn't? How can one truly know? It's impossible. I know plenty of people who could con the system. Lock the doors. We don't need them.

Cherry pick much? Let's quote the order (and for purposes of discussion let's assume the 9th Circuit is a real court even though the appeal involves "the most liberal federal District Court in the country (and the court whose decisions are most frequently overturned on appeal)"

Legal Standard - "Our decision is guided by four questions: "(1) whether the stay applicant has made a strong showing that he is likely to succeed on the merits; (2) whether the applicant will be irreparably injured absent a stay; (3) whether issuance of the stay will substantially injury the other parties interested in the proceeding; and (4) where the public interest lies""

Order - "We hold that the Government has not shown a likelihood of success on the merits of its appeal, nor has it shown that failure to enter a stay would cause irreparable injury, and we therefore deny its emergency motion for a stay."

We are literally at the point that we have posters arguing with a straight face that an order from a federal appellate court doesn't matter because they don't like the court. The real, true, actual facts are that the EO is not in effect because a federal district court found it unconstitutional. The government argued for a stay to let it apply before being reviewed and a federal appellate court found they are unlikely to win that argument.
