Mustang Senior Matthew "Game Day" Blank To Sign

To Play His College Football At Division I Morehead State

It was announced on Thursday that Brossart Senior Footballer Matthew "Game

Day" Blank - 6'3", 290 lbs - has committed to sign to play his college football

at Morehead State University. Coach Paul Wiggins reported that Blank made an

official visit this past weekend and has been promised a roster spot for the 2017

Eagles. Congratulations to Matt Blank and the Brossart Football Program!

Blank becomes the first Mustang in the history of the program to sign Division 1.

(Thanks to @Mustang for this writeup from BMustangs site)

What a great story! Just a couple years ago, Brossart was almost ready to close up shop on their foorball program. Now they are sending a kid to the next level of competition. Kudos to this young man, Coach Wiggins and the Brossart administration!

Congratulations Matthew! A great kid from a great family who I'm sure could not be prouder! Good luck at the next level!

Is it strangely worded "promised a roster spot" because Morehead is not awarding schollys or is it worded that way because they are now?

No, they do not offer scholarships.

Awesome! Congrats to the kid and a nice step for the Brossart program.

Why sign a binding letter of intent if no money offered?

Good question. I was wondering the same thing.

Congrats to Matt and good luck.

I am simply quoting Coach Paul Wiggins from an interview given at halftime of our Brossart - Pendleton County varsity broadcast, where he used the phrase, "promised a roster spot." I'm sure the Eagles aren't comprised of volunteers, so there has to be some incentive for players to come play at MSU. He also has received an academics package in conjunction with the football position.

Congratulations to Matt, his family, and the Brossart program.

Morehead St is the only university in the Pioneer Football League that isn't private. Schools such as Dayton and Butler provide endowment $$$ to their recruits ( mind you, not scholarships but a financial package based on merit ). Their tuition, room and board is also very high ( approx $53k a year range ).

Moreheads advantage for in state student-athletes with good grades and high ACTs is the academic merit in the form of pell grants and loans ( subsidized or not ). MSU is very affordable....EKU and MSU have the lowest tuition, room/board in the state of Kentucky ( approx $20k a year ).

A straight A student with a 28 ACT can see MSU cost cut in half after FAFSFA considerations. Take that same student to a UD or Butler and they will pay $30k plus a year. Butler and UD are great schools. I don't think they are 3 X the cost of tuition at MSU great!

Again, congrats to Matt and continued success at MSU...:thumb:
