Mason Co. 14 Frankfort 12

Featured Replies

Mason has a real solid offensive line. Something they can hang their hat on is when they need the tough yards their O-line made it happen. Good luck to them as they prepare for the district and the rest of their season.

As for FHS I thought they played hard but was flat emotionally. Disapointed in the effort for 85% of the game. But am very proud that with 2:30 to go they fought hard and gave themselves a chance to tie it at the end.

After 2 hard fought games with 3-A teams, FHS has better prepared themselves for the district.

Scheduling Mason and Franklin county may seem like a less than intelligent idea to the casual observer or Panther parents, but is really a great thing for FHS,because it does prepare them for both high caliber run and pass teams

defensively.Frankfort high needs to stay with the passing game a little more to keep defenses from stacking up on the run to make a deep run in the playoffs. If they can't have an above average passing game between now and playoff time they don't have a chance against the powerhouse teams IMO.

Hopefully the FHS coaching staff will devote more practice time to the passing attack.Good luck to Foley and co. the rest of the season!

Congrats to Mason on a nice win...Don't get discouraged Frankfort, you guys have a very good 1a team that will definately be a force to reckon with in 1a. Your early season scheduling of Franklin, Mason and the like will only make you better when it counts...

Great win Coach Buchanan, come on home to Mercer during your off week.

Nice win by the Royals. Yeah sure every phase of the game plan is not clicking the way all would like but standing at 4-1 you can not be unhappy about the way Mason is playing. Frankfort is a VERY good football team. So a win is a win is a win. Many coaches have said it before and I will repeat it, "An ugly win beats a pretty loss anyday." And this one was not ugly just some things did not go as planned but Mason made the big play at the end.

Great to meet pigman Friday night also. Keep plugging along Panthers as I am sure that you will continue to improve and make a playoff run. Good luck the rest of the way.

Just curious, were there any complaints about the field?

No the field was in pretty good shape. I don't understand why they don't have the soccer teams play on the practice field ,or with all that space have their own game field. Soccer is hard on a football field ,doesn't take too many years to wear the crown down. For as much rain as we had field was actually in good shape. Was nice to meet you too Phillip Hay. Good luck with the rest of your season.:ylsuper:

My understanding is that there might be soccer facilities at the site of Mason County's new intermediate school; and possibly even a track. I'm not holding my breath, though.

Please understand - Mason County has always been and always will be a basketball school first. Coach Buchanan has put football on the map again in Maysville, and his success on the field, but maybe more importantly off the field with the young men of Mason County will always attract participants, as well as strong parental and fan support. However, the fact that Mason County plays soccer on the football field is just a subtle reminder that basketball is king here in Maysville.

The track is a 300-meter track that was squeezed into the campus - whoever heard of a 300-meter track?! The boys and girls play soccer on the football field (at least they don't practice there). Mason County is the only area school without volleyball - yes, Bracken County, St. Pat and Deming all have volleyball. Someone recently requested to essentially foot the bill to start a wrestling program, but that would mean that someone might not attend a basketball game (and don't get me wrong - I'm as big a Royals basketball fan as there is). The request was denied.

I will give credit to the cross-country coach, who pretty much single-handedly, with the help of a few parents, created an excellent XC venue, and even has put together a little indoor track facility at the old Jockey property (now owned by the school Board) just outside of town - it's too bad that the participation numbers in these sports are so low at Mason County. There's no telling what Mason County could do in track if they had a regulation track on which to practice and participate.

Sorry if I've offended the Mason County faithful here on BGP (but I'm one of them and I make no apologies for calling things as I see them; and my interest is in seeing all aspects of Mason County improve) - a couple know who I am, most don't, and many would be surprised at my identity because I pretty much know them all. However, the whole "Mason County plays soccer on their football field" thing got me on a little bit of a rant.

Mason's field was not a good as it normally should have been. Their were little pot holes, and dirt clods everywhere. It was still in good shape but it did look worn down to me. But, it played good and fast and you cant ask for more in a field. But, that was a good game, Frankfort almost sent this one into OT.
