Newport Catholic 62 Highlands 47

Featured Replies

Final

The Breds continue their winning ways over the Bluebirds.

Observations

Highlands is a poor FT shooting team. I'm dying to know how many they missed tonight. Had to be double digits.

Finfrock should touch the ball every possession.

Every loose rebound or ball went to NCC.

Brennan Hall is smooth as silk and can score when he wants.

Luke Moeves showed me he has imoroved his overall game attacking the rim.

Numerous turnovers for Highlands tonight resulting in empty posessions.

Great atmosphere there tonight as both fan bases represented.

I will add...

1. I think McDaniel is NewCath's X-factor heading into the All-A. He is a versatile 3rd scorer.

2. Angel is a battler. If he gets in bball shape, he give Highlands a rebounder and defender they need off the bench.

As Q said, B. Hall does what he wants, nobody could stop him. Luke Moeves continues to attack the rim VERY STRONG......quite impressive tonight.

Really impressed with the play of Jalen McDaniel, his role is to play defense and he continues to play VERY SOLID "D", the points he provides is a bonus.

Wurtz, Luken, & Neff did some bangin' tonight and came up with some key buckets as well.

I've said many times on here and to countless folks......Finfrock should get the ball EVERY possession for the Birds, if somebody shoots the ball before he gets a touch they should be benched....PERIOD!!!

Listerman deserved the "T" he was assessed, he ran across half court and was literally standing next to Ken Collopy and Jimmy Pangallo on the NewCath bench calling for the timeout. NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE BEFORE.

Overall, it was a great atmosphere and a great game by two hard playing teams.

Maybe he thought as long as he was in either coach's box he was good.

What's the story with LaFrange for Highlands?????? Started last year, this game didn't play one second, and only got in for maybe 2 minutes of the Newport game a couple weeks ago.

Not sure except purely a coaching decision I presume. Hes a great kid with good attitude and excellent work ethic. They wheel many different kids in and out. He can shoot the 3 and get some rebounds.

Not denying what you said about McDanial, but their 3rd scorer is their combination that plays center. Had 15 points from them tonight. Game in and game out it is almost always at least this much.

I was going to address this tonight, so I am glad that you started it. This kid played a ton of minutes last year, in fact he started for most of the year. Morgan Race is another kid who saw quite a few minutes last year as well. These two kids are "basketball only" kids which is supposed to be the love of the program.

There was an issue earlier in the year with Luke and he was forced to not dress a game and then to miss another, albeit while dressed. At that point, IMO punishment has been served and the hatchet needs to be buried by the ADULT and for the second year in a row it has not. If the decision was made to keep the young man around, then DO NOT EMBARRASS the kid like is being done now.

Based upon what I have seen in numerous game this year, the kid can compete as well or better than every kid on the team currently outside of Finfrock. Luke sees "zero" minutes tonight and a kid that has not played basketball in three years gets quality minutes.

If this program is going to rise from the ashes, it is time that these "head games" go away and grudges not be held for an entire season. Seeing the same thing happen at the frosh level as well where the coach has a grudge with a parent and take it out on the kid.

I like Kevin and every member of this staff, but this stuff needs to stop and stop now if this program is ever going to get back to where it should.

The X-Factor tonight was Austin Neff IMO. When he was inserted into the game for NCC the "toughness" factor went up exponentially. Former coach that I was sitting with commented on how "tough" his game was and how hard he played.

Highlands needs work on their overall team defense. Too many times guys had open lanes to the rim it almost looked too easy.

Also, it amazes me how many High School kids truly believe they are shot blockers. Only one kid tonight showed me that and it was Sophomore Ben Sisson when he pinned a shot to the board. Everyone else just flailed their arms miserably ultimately ending in a foul.

He is tough, but he isn't getting you what McDaniel does on the offensive end. Neff 0lays his role very well, tons of energy. NewCath needs a consistent 3rd scorer. McDaniel should be it.
