Mason Blair (Johnson Central) - School Scoring Record

Featured Replies

Johnson Central senior standout and UPike commit Mason Blair scored a school record 58 points last night versus Lawrence County. His record setting night included a 25 point 3rd quarter and 36 point 2nd half (both top 10 all time per the KHSAA record book). Mason already holds the career scoring record at Johnson Central in only 3 full years of varsity action (currently at 1,953 career points), as he scored very little his freshman year in limited action.

This was the his 2nd 50 point game versus Lawrence County this season! Another interesting note is that the leading scorer in the nation per max preps, Timmy Dalton (Lawrence County), went for 44 points in the same game. Both Timmy and Mason started for M.A.T.T.S. Mustangs AAU team this past summer, advancing to the national championship game. In their three meetings versus one another this season Mason has scored 50, 31, 58 (139 total) and Timmy has scored 42, 44, 44 (130 total). Needless to say its fun to watch these two play.

Mason is on pace to break the single season record for made 3FG (sits at 145 currently) this season as he has made 110 thus far. Mason is also on pace to break the made 3FG in a career (407). He will also break the 3FG attempts in a career this season as well.

Congrats to Mason on a wonderful night!

Blair's stats last night:

22-40 FG, 8-18 3PT, 6-8 FT, 4 REB, 1 AST, 3 TO, 3 STL

Game was 46-33 at halftime and 78-54 after 3 quarters

Why is he still in the game chucking 3s when they are up 30?

Probably the same reason alot of kids stay in the game when they are close to a scoring record. Probably the same reason teams leave starters in when the game has been decided against them to let their stars get their numbers against the younger players. This has happened a bunch this year and many years prior.

Not a big deal IMO.

Not Blair's fault, he is just doing his job and a job it seems he does well. Is he any kin to the great Eddie Blair from over there?

Just visiting my Facebook and learned that this is Eddie's son. Must be a chip off the old block as I saw that Eddie was just recently inducted into the Johnson Central Hall of Fame.

Correct! He is Eddie's son and his non-identical twin brother (Jarrett) is also on the team. Mason and Jarrett are 1st Cousin's to former JC point guard Braxton Blair as well. Braxton recently won his first boxing tournament after playing 1 year for Alice Lloyd College on the hardwood.

Blair is a old friend from back in our UK days. Got to know a bunch of the folks from over there that went to UK. Blair has always been a first class person and I could not be prouder of his son. Also was great to hear that he was inducted into the JC Hall of Fame. I think I heard that Braxton's dad also won that same boxing tournament back in the day

40 shots in one game?

20 seems like a lot. 40?

It's a huge accomplishment for Blair. But they won by more than 30. I question the coach for risking injury to his best players by leaving them in for the whole game.
