Campbell County 83 Highlands 60

Featured Replies

Oldercoach, some can't see the light. Camels could have easily have won by 35 had they wanted. Took foot off the gas.

All hail Camelman.....all hail....... I sense some true disdain for the Birds.

Now you're starting to get the hang of how it works!

I hardly think Coach Russell dictated the final score, give me a break.

Called off the Claryville "Beatdown".

The Highlands Bluebirds basketball team started the big week Tuesday with a trip down US 27.

Awaiting them in Alexandria stood the Campbell County Camels (17-1 overall) ranked eighth in the latest Associated Press poll. While the Bluebirds (9-10) have come a long way this season, the 83-60 loss to Campbell County showed them what needs to happen to battle the elite teams in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

The Camels moved to 9-0 against 9th Region competition. Their lone loss came by an 81-74 score at Bracken County on Dec. 9.

The Camels made 34-of-58 shots for 59 percent including 5-of-9 from three-point range for 56 percent and 11-of-13 free throws for 85 percent. Seniors Garren Bertsch and Cole Hegyi led Campbell County scoring 22 and 19 points respectively.

"They've got two very, very good scorers," said Kevin Listerman, Highlands Head Coach. "They've got size. They've got guys that handle the ball. They've got guys who will knock it down if you leave them open. (The Camels) are as good as anybody in the 9th Region. It's a legitimate ranking in the state."

Highlands saw Braden Posey record 11 points and three assists with Kyle Finfrock scoring nine points and grabbing five rebounds. Highlands hit 21-of-48 shots for 44 percent including 6-of-14 from three-point range for 43 percent and 11-of-21 free throws for 52 percent.

Highlands plays host to Dixie Heights (15-3) on Friday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

So you don't think calling off the big dogs and putting in JV players dictates a score?

Based on the final scoring column, um, yeah...I believe Coach Russell got some good game experience for the balance of the bench, and displays outstanding sportsmanship once a game is in hand....

Campbell's starters were still in the game late in the 4th qt. JV probably played last 2mins.

That's not what I'm asking.

No I dont believe it does.

....because...???

So CCHS' JV scored 11 points in the last 2 minutes of the game ? That is impressive...was there any defense played ?

The Camels played 10 or 11 guys in the first half. The last four on bench maybe played the last two minutes.

I'm looking forward to the Camels and Blue Colonels getting at each other.

7:30pm - Monday, January 23 @ CovCath for those who are interested.

The last 2 mins of the game was just a bunch 3's being fired by the Birds. So I guess not. The Birds bench and some JV played almost the whole 2nd half. Birds starters played maybe 3 mins of the 3rd an didn't play the rest of the game. Good win at Home. Good luck playing Covcath @Covcath. You will get a little taste of how it's kinda hard to beat good teams at home.

Just curious: Do you think Highlands would have won this game if played at HHS?
