49ers are - and have been - honing in on hiring Falcons OC Kyle Shanahan as their HC, per sources.

McDaniels Pulls Out of 49ers Coaching Search; Focusing on Playoffs

Boom. No distractions.

He knows he's got the pinnacle of coaching jobs waiting for him....He already learned that grass ain't always greener on the other side of the fence.

He is in a perfect spot. He doesn't have to take a job just to take a job. He knows he will be a hot coaching target each off season. So no reason to just take a job just to take it. He can stay with the Pat's be a super bowl contender and wait for the right job he can win with right away. Since he failed once he knows he probably only has one more chance to prove himself as a head coach.

I personally think he is waiting for the Colts job to open up if Belichick doesn't retire before that. He would be able to win right away with a qb like Luck to work with.

Smart move, after what's been done in San Francisco it's not going to be desirable for anyone unless it's a first opportunity.

That's a job for a virgin coach. No experience HC wants to walk into that mess. Has the owner hired a GM or is he hiring a coach, then a GM? The latter is a disaster waiting to happen.

McDaniel proves he's the smarter of the two OC's. He's in a great job and doesn't need to jump into the dumpster fire in SFO.

I hope no one takes this job. (want happen I know)
