True story about McDaniel College. When my parents attended (back in the dim reaches of time), it was Western Maryland College. Stayed that was from 1867 to 2002, when the trustees changed the name to honor an alumnus.

 

The next year when they asked my parents for money (they always gave a donation) they identified as being from McDaniel College. Dad told them that he graduated from Western Maryland (2 degrees, BA and MA); not McDaniel; and wasn't going to give any more. They sent him two diplomas from McDaniel for his degrees (guess they thought that would change his mind); so he has four diplomas now. But only the first two are on display.

 

And he still doesn't give any money.

Although "Yellow Jackets" is their official nickname, I've always been partial to "The Rambling Wreck" of Georgia Tech.

 

Rambling Wreck is one of their official mascots.

 

By the same token, I like the nickname of Purdue University, "The Boilermakers".
