First time seeing Camels impressions:

1). Impressed with their defensive quickness and help defense with Mason's continued attempts to penetrate. Must have had double figure blocks?

2). Excellent shooters with consistent quality shot selections. Forced very little.

3). Surprised with a deep rotation of 9 quality time contributors.

4). Will be surprised if Camels don't represent Rupp again.

Mason impressions:

1). Athletic team that continually challenged Camels with driving penetrations only to find it tough to get off clean shots.

2). Challenged to hit anything outside the paint.

3). Quick hands and anticipation with numerous defensive steals that kept them in the game.

4). Perkin's absence was a definite factor as Camels controlled the boards.

5). Fought hard despite never materially closing the 18-4 opening first quarter runout by CC.

Is CC that good or is the 10th just that bad?

 

The Camels are that good. Bertsch and Hegyi do the majority of the scoring, but they have gotten major contributions from Day, Clos, and Jolly as well. Also their defense is impressive, especially their team rebounding.

Shout out to CCHS's Robert Marlow who had an awesome blocked shot last night!

It's a shame the student body won't come out and support this team on a regular basis (they will, however, show up this Sat for the Brossart game). The Camels are now 13-1. What does it take to get some student support?

A few years ago I suggested they give Honor Roll Students free sports passes in an effort to boost student attendance.

My theory was students are not coming to the games. If you gave free admission to the Honor Roll student, they may come, and bring someone with them that would be paying. Plus, it could possibly inspire a student to do better in the classroom.

That wasn't received well.

The school draws from a very large area. If my memory serves correctly, they did not have attendance problems at the old high school.

I discussed this same issue with another coach before Christmas break and when they were in school (8 years ago) they would go to the games to be with their friends, there was no social media to keep in constant contact with their friends like there is now. However, when kids are at the games, if you watch them, they have their heads in their phone and really not watching the game. I really don't get it. A lot athletes buy the all season pass ($20 or $30 for students) which gets you into every home game (minus playoff & Brossart) for the whole school year. Do other larger schools have the same problems?

Yep. I saw not more than 30 students last night and all were sitting and looking at their phones the entire game. It's sad, really.

This isn't just a CCHS problem either. I attend a lot of games in the 9th/10th regions and it's the same across the board - very low student attendance.

Have a student led pep section, organize a group of 10 or so kids to pick themes and stuff. It is sad that with that good of a basketball team that will always be a Region contender and none of the students seem to realize it.

 

Trust me I know from experience that sometimes it is hard to get students at games. Even when they get in free. Bracken County will typically have around 20-30 students at regular season games and for big ones more. I hate seeing kids think they are "too cool" to support their team.

 

I really don't know why they don't have pep sections every game with the 1000 kids they have. One reason I think Bracken has done better than Campbell in this because as you know, there's not much to do in Brooksville than go to a basketball game. But at Campbell there's tons of stuff to do in NKY.

 

Just speaking from my experience.

Admission for students last night was $2. The rules at Bracken have changed from anywhere to: seniors free, free with student ID, free if your sport is in season, honor roll, now we are to where if you have met benchmark on the ACT you get in free.
