Jody Demling's blog discusses 6-class scheduling

Featured Replies

Lots of interesting stuff in the latest edition of Jody's blog, but one thing I found very interesting was his discussion of local teams' efforts to fill their schedules next season with much smaller districts. Here is an excerpt from his Sept 10 blog entry:

With the move to six classes next season, high school football teams across the state are scrambling to schedule more games. Many teams had five or more teams in a district under the current class, but will only have four next year.

So there are games to add!

I have started to work on a story about the process and what teams might add what opponents, so look for that in the paper version of The C-J soon.

Here's a few samples:

  • Expect PRP to have one of the toughest schedules in the state. PRP athletic director Craig Webb said coach Chris Wolfe wants to play the best. The Panthers are in the process of adding several teams and among them could be Trinity and Ballard.
  • Look for Trinity to also maybe play a game against Butler and perhaps even start a series with a public school from Lexington. But it doesn't look like the Trinity-Manual series will continue next season, which is a shame for both schools.
  • I forgot to ask Male coach Bob Redman last night but there are rumors out there the Bulldogs might add an Indianapolis power to their schedule.
  • The one team in Louisville having the toughest time scheduling opponents - Central. It seems nobody - even public schools - want any part of the Yellowjackets.
  • I believe St. Xavier will keep playing Lexington Catholic and Fort Thomas Highlands and have heard it will likely play Manual again, despite not being in the same district.

It's fun to hear some of the potential match-ups but I'm still waiting to heard anything from the one game I REALLY want to see - Trinity vs. Male. Also, several schools play Providence (Ind.) but I wish a few would add teams like Jeffersonville and New Albany.

I think it's interesting that Louisville Central is having a hard time finding programs that want to play. The Yellowjackets are tough. Would love to see them play Bowling Green, Highlands, Cov Cath, or the 4A Big Three.

And of course, I'm really curious to find out who Male may be in discussions with up in Indianapolis.

Warren Central maybe?

Or maybe Benn Davis?

This is a shame. Anybody know the story behind this?

Well, based on all the he said/she said stuff about tape exchanges or the lack thereof and postgame handshakes (regardless of whose version of the story is accurate), it sounds like the relationship may have been a bit strained. A shame, because I think the series was a win/win for both programs.

Yeah, Trinity would like to continue to play Manual, Manual doesn't. End of story.

Why does Central have a hard time finding teams that want to play them?

Speaking of Central, I think they will be one of the really big winners in the new alignment. They will be an absolute power in the new 3A.

If you ask me, had they had the right coach they would have been in the current 3A. They have had the talent and speed for a while now.

I had been thinking the whole tape thing was an isolated incident so to speak, water under the bridge and whatnot. It doesn't matter.

This was a series for the fans, and it was really good for both teams IMO. There's NO good reason WHATSOEVER to end thiis series.

The Manual thing ticks me off, and I am generally a Nichols apologist, but he is "done" with playing us. Looks like we'll be moving on to PRP, Henry Clay or Dunbar, Central, and some others.
