Conner 61 Ryle 57

Tough game for Scheer - struggled shooting then fouled out on a reach with 2 left.

Savannah Jordan was very good for Conner.

Two evenly matched teams.

All the people touting McGregor's athleticism were spot on. What an athlete! So explosive!

Once Scheer gets back to 100% Ryle could take a big step forward.

Big district win for Conner that lets them take control of the district seeding at 2-0. Heard the final score shouldn't have been this close and that Conner continued to struggle with lots of turnovers, bad shooting and especially poor free throw shooting. Also heard that substitution patterns were suspect again.

IMO it's hard to question how a coach substitutes when the team won the game. If he subbed different they maybe could have lost. What they do know, is they won the game by how they subbed. So imo it's hard to question subbing patterns if a team won.

I didn't see the TOs, and Ryle didn't appear to shoot FTs notably better than Conner.

What I saw - Conner is not a great shooting team, and on several occasions the wrong person took the shot. Jordan stepped up down the stretch, controlled the ball, and made key FTs.

Conner isn't markedly better than Ryle - Scheer plays at 100% and Ryle might have walked out a winner.

Sometimes subbing patterns keep the other team in the game.

Your subbing complaints are tiresome and without merit. If you are having problems with it you should take it up with the coach.

EZ has a fascination with ol' Aaron.

Yes and no. No one has any idea how a game would turn out with different subs at different times. Maybe they win by more, maybe they end up losing. No one knows. However the one absolute fact that we do know, is all the moves tonight and subbing patterns resulted in a win and that is a fact. Which is the reason why I say questioning a subbing pattern after a win is wrong. At the end of the day that subbing pattern won the game. If you change the subbing the result could change for the better or the worst. No one can say they know for sure, it would just be an opinion. The fact that can't be denied is the subbing pattern tonight led to a win, so imo I don't know how that could be questioned acting like a different subbing pattern would have been better. As far as people know a different subbing pattern could have resulted in a lost.

For Conner it's less about substitution patterns and more about role clarity. Not everyone on that team is/needs to be a 3 point shooter, option scorer, and ball handler. What everyone needs to do is play defense and rebound.

I would like to see Conner run a few sets to get Hurst open looks and let Jordan go to the basket. Between her shooting and her ability to draw shooting fouls Jordan is a very efficient scorer.

Fouls shots - what a novel concept...

This was a very exciting game to watch...just like most district games should be! 2 big keys to this game were the inside play of Duncan (Ryle really struggled to contain her) and the defense played on Scheer/Schwartz to frustrate them (lot of face guarding and denial of the ball). Both are really excellent players! Ryle needs to continue to develop at least a third option to help offset the defenses those girls will face. Truly believe that's a big reason Scheer fouled out and Schwartz had 4 early in the 4th. Not sure which post it was, but I disagree that they're evenly matched...the scoreboard might have shown that, but Conner frankly left a bunch of points at the free throw line (they were much more aggressive driving to the basket and Ryle just doesn't have the same defenders back there to protect the rim). Looking forward to seeing the continued development of McGregor...she should definitely be that 3rd option IMO.

I don't think Hurst or Jordan need more shots, they need more efficient shots. Would like to see them run some curls or double screens, pick & pops, pick & rolls...they have quite a few decent mid-range shooters. Feel like that team needs to learn that quite often less is more. Less 3 pt shots off the cuff while taking more efficient shots in the flow of the offense. Did love the fact that Aaron had them working the ball inside that game...they had a serious advantage there and it played out well for them.

Really fun game to watch...congrats to both teams! Next time they meet should be just as interesting!

Conner missed 18 FTs.

It's got to be mental for them right now. I know they shoot them better than they are.

That's partially it RCC...there are a couple that just need a little adjusting. After seeing them several games now, Jordan and McLemore both tend to shoot it flat. Their shots look good just need a bit more arch...a little more drive from their legs. Their big, Duncan, doesn't have bad form, but seems to have a bit too much pressure from her off-hand...ball can have a funky spin at times.

The other thing that would help their FT % is to get Hurst to the line more. She's their best FT shooter but doesn't drive to the basket much. She's also been the focus of the other team's defense, so that hasn't helped her.

It is definitely something they can and probably will improve on. As a coach, I'd be more concerned about their inefficiency on offense.
