December 6, 20169 yr Ken Rosenthal Verified account @Ken_Rosenthal BREAKING: Sale to #RedSox. Moncada, Kopech and two other prospects to #WhiteSox.
December 6, 20169 yr I'm still sitting here wondering if the Cubs are gonna do anything this offseason or if Jed and Theo are still drunk
December 7, 20169 yr The Red Sox are building a great rotation. Sale came at a great cost however. Moncada and Kopech are potential all-stars. But they'll control Sale for 3 years. The trade for Tyler Thornburg gives them a really nice 8th inning guy and the Mitch Moreland signing gives them the 2016 Gold Glove winner at first base and some left handed power. That probably means Hanley will get the bulk of his at bats at DH. The 3 moves didn't break the bank either.
December 7, 20169 yr So they gave Moncada 63 million to trade him to the White Sox for Sale to pay him 38 million over 3 years...so basically paying $101 million for 3 years of Sale...:scared:

However, Sale has been right around 6 WAR each of the last 5 seasons except 2014. With 1 WAR being worth $6 million they aren't overpaying by much. And his relatively cheap contract actually saves them some money by keeping them under the luxury tax.

Sale is definitely a stud, just saying it wasn't a bargain by any means. But the move thrusts them into World Series favorites next year. Maybe we'll see a Bo Sox/Cubs World Series next year. That'll be good for baseball and ratings.
