St. Xavier at Trinity Updates - 6A Semi-Final

Featured Replies

The Rivalry

Trinity boasts an overall record of 42-37-2 against St. Xavier and tonight these two hated rivals will face off in a win or go home situation in the 6A Semifinals. Trinity has won 15 of the last 19 games in this series and comes into this game expected to make it 16 of the last 20 games that they have won in this series. Trinity has a record of 13-0 which includes a victory of 35-13 over St. Xavier on September 30 this year. St. Xavier enters the game with a record of 9-3 and has appeared to have improved each game throughout the season. As mentioned this particular rematch is an expected victory for Trinity as Trinity has dominated this rivalry for quite some time. As we all know though, on any given Friday night anything can happen. Especially in rivalry games!!!!

Trinity:

Trinity brings in a balanced offense in which they have three players with over 600 yards rushing.

Roderick Thomas has 844 yards rushing and 15 touchdowns.

Spencer Blackburn has 608 yards and 25 touchdowns.

Jovan Smith has 751 yards and 7 touchdowns.

Spencer Blackburn also has 2168 yards passing with 30 touchdowns and 3 interceptions.

The leading receivers on the team are:

Noah Ellison with 449 yards and 8 touchdowns.

Nick Strothman with 411 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Jovel Smith with 347 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Rondale Moore was recently ruled eligible and in his two games with Trinity he has 8 receptions for 247 yards and 6 touchdowns.

Again, I repeat, in Rondale Moore's two games with Trinity he has 8 receptions for 247 yards and 6 touchdowns.

Defensively Trinity is giving up an average of 9 points a game and while their schedule may not contain some of the nation powers people expect to see they are still a strong defensive team that will make it extremely hard for any team to move the ball on them at will.

St. Xavier:

St. Xavier brings a run oriented offense to this game but with quarterback Desmond Ridder they still have the threat of moving the ball through the air.

On the ground St. X is led by Sam Taylor's 1313 yards rushing and his 14 touchdowns.

Desmond Ridder brings in 744 yards and 15 touchdowns.

In the air through 10 games Ridder has 825 yards passing, 10 touchdowns and 3 interceptions.

No receiver has more than 200 yards receiving on the season and none have more than 2 touchdown receptions making it safe to say that St. Xavier will be doing their damage on the ground.

Defensively St. Xavier is giving up 20 points a game and have arguably played a schedule that could be considered tougher than Trinity's.

What to expect:

Like most I do expect Trinity to win this game. However, IF St. Xavier is able to move the ball efficiently on the ground and control the clock and field position then they may be able to swing this game in their favor. I do think Rondale Moore makes Trinity more dynamic on offense and I am not sure St. Xavier will have anyone who can contain him. That makes controlling the clock and field position the most important things needed for St. Xavier to pull off this upset.

This game will kickoff at 6:30 pm at Papa John's Stadium.
