November 25, 20169 yr There hasn't been a ton of money to be made the past few years. If you can get to a 6% return that is very good. Last 5 years S&P 6 1.5 16 32 13 I'd argue 6 is low especially for a young cat.
November 25, 20169 yr Now that's a good point, I wonder what is in Deuces' portfolio. Chances are he owns a mutual funds, so he's probably splitting 10 different stocks. Say a Johnson and Johnson, some energy stocks and some tech stocks. I don't know what percentage he pays in, nor his match by the company. Deuce, hopefully it's a 5-5% match or 6-6% match. At age 30 you want to have half of your annual salary in your 401k. Clarrify this please. You want to be putting half your annual salary in your 401k or your total balance in your 401k should be half your annual salary at age 30? Never heard that before btw. I didnt have a 401K till I was 32, never worked at a place that offered one till then.

Never heard that before btw. I didnt have a 401K till I was 32, never worked at a place that offered one till then. In a perfect world you want to have half of your annual salary in a 401k at 30. So if you're 30 and make 50k, you want to try to have 25k in your 401k by now. Of course it depends on the opportunity to have done so as well before age 30. If you weren't offered 401k match till 32 you are a little behind the 8 ball but can still do very well for yourself if you have one for the next 30 years.

Certainly 3-4 years ago returns were great after the recession recovery but single digits aren't a huge payday, I would love to get a 10% return next year. Stocks take decades to pay off though which I'm sure you are aware of. Will you be cashing out at the end of the Trump era? That could be very opportunistic. Or will you be on the next man or women's clock?
