Covington Holy Cross 55 Owen County 12

Was this game played in Park Hills? I saw an Owen County bus in the lot and couldn't figure out why they would be at CCH.

I don't get it. You want to do this WildCat look against Lloyd, NewCath, and hopefully beyond, but....0 pass attempts for Barnes. This would have been the perfect game to work on it.

Don't show anything to future opponents? Get Couch some work and try to get a passing game together if playing from behind?

2 things.

1. If the passing game isn't together at this point in the season, it isn't going to happen.

2. They already showed the WildCat to 2 of their District opponents. They know it is coming.

Why not take this opportunity to work on making it a little more varied instead of hoping that practicing it during the week is enough?

But did they throw out of the wildcat in the district games? If they didn't then those are wrinkles they might not want to have on tape.

That's my point. The formation has already been shown. Teams are going to be prepared for the run. Eventually they are going to have to throw out of it. It isn't going to be a surprise. Why take the risk that it will be successful in a playoff game?

And that is my point as well. If they have not thrown out of the formation, why throw out of the formation and show future opponents plays in a meaningless game? I think it is more of a surprise when they throw the ball out of wildcat if no one has seen them do it.

Or, maybe Holy Cross has already tried Barnes throwing the ball from the wildcat enough in practice to know it doesn't work.

For what it's worth in this discussion. At 1:04 in the Play by Play above, Barnes is in the Wildcat. First and 15 from the OC 42. He takes the snap and goes back to throw. OC rush freezes. Barnes pump fakes, pauses, and then takes off up the middle for 58 yards to the endzone. Unfortunately, a HC block in the back calls it back. Barnes is a smart guy. He reads what he sees in the Wildcat and takes the best option available.
