hrcarrier Posted October 23, 2016 Posted October 23, 2016 Earlier on, I thought definitely not. With Baylor still undefeated and an improving West Virginia team that hasn't lost, the likelihood is looking a lot better. West Virginia and Baylor plays the last game of the season. It's not saying that either of them won't lose to someone else before they face each other possibly, what are some other thoughts on this?
JuggAlum Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 What is less than 0%? Right now even with Baylor and WV undefeated their strength of schedule and not having a championship game has them on the outside looking in if the season ended next week. They will need a few teams to lose and even then its not a guarantee. Alabama has 1 spot locked up, I just don't see them losing in the regular season even with Auburn and LSU left on the schedule. The Big 12 will need Michigan to beat OSU and take the Big Ten's spot in the playoffs. Clemson will have to lose at least 1 and Louisville will need to spudder the rest of the way through the season (If not lose again) and with the likely next Heisman Trophy winner I don't see that happening. The only way I see them having the slightest of chances is if Washington has their season ruined by the likes of USC and or CAL.That is a big IF by the way they are playing on both sides of the ball. Even then the Big 12's worst enemy is themselves/Long Horn Network and not willing to expand/share. Until then they can plan on sitting out even if they have an undefeated team and half or more of the top 5 have a loss.
GrantNKY Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 I think it is looking more and more likely. I would put it at 15% chance. I thought Oklahoma would beat both of them, but with how Oklahoma struggled against Tech I'm not so sure anymore. I still think the Big 10 winner gets in assuming it's OSU/ Mich. Alabama gets in unless they lose the Iron bowl and Auburn runs the table until then. Clemson gets in if they stay the course, Im not sure they will though, they're in. Washington is in if they win Pac 12. Even with 1 loss I think they're in. But I think both WVU and Baylor lose a game somewhere besides the game against each other.
Clyde Posted October 28, 2016 Posted October 28, 2016 Sidenote: Looks like the B12 is going to start having a championship game . #1 vs #2.
GrantNKY Posted October 28, 2016 Posted October 28, 2016 Sidenote: Looks like the B12 is going to start having a championship game . #1 vs #2. They don't have a choice. Every other conference has a champ game that last weekend before the selections are announced. You need that last impression.
Getslow Posted October 28, 2016 Posted October 28, 2016 Sidenote: Looks like the B12 is going to start having a championship game . #1 vs #2. It means they're going to have to stop doing the one cool thing about having a round robin as the regular season schedule: backloading. As it is, all the big games between conference title contenders are at the end of the season. Last thing the league wants now is to have its two best teams conceivably play two weeks in a row.

While highly unlikely that Baylor and West ByGod both stay undefeated through 11 games, they'll have one this year when Baylor ends the season in Morgantown. IF, and it is highly unlikely, but IF they are both undefeated, the winner of that game is a lead-pipe LOCK to make the Playoffs.

Let's say Clemson, Alabama, and Michigan all finish the season unbeaten. They're all in for sure so no sense in worrying. If Washington and the winner of WVU/Baylor are unbeaten, some conference commissioner is going to have the worst day at work in his entire life after the final playoff rankings are released and it's going to be awesome. Maybe this is my Eastern bias showing, but I'm putting an unbeaten Baylor or WVU in ahead of an unbeaten Washington and I'm not thinking twice about it.

I've been known to be a firm believer in college football being fluff out west plenty of seasons, but Washington is way better than anyone in the Big 12 this season IMO. If West Virginia and Baylor are undefeated when they play at the end of the season, Washington doesn't lose, and the top three haven't lost at the end, there will be a lot of push for the eight team playoff.

Yeah I rarely think much of the PAC12 or the BigXII and the non-conference schedules for both Baylor and Washington are as soft as baby dookie. I'm planning to watch some chunks of the UW/Utah game today which could change my feeling about them.

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with the way Washington looks today. They are legit. But most importantly they play defense, the Big XII offenses go up against tackling dummies during their games.
hrcarrier Posted October 29, 2016 Author Posted October 29, 2016 Maybe this thread was premature, lol. Oklahoma State is up on West Virginia 27-10 and close to the fourth quarter.
swamprat Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 Their chances just took a huge hit. Somebody needs to beat Oklahoma and it best be a one loss team.
