What he was able to do visually with One Love in Belly was one of the more creative things I have ever seen. That being said give me......Ether, I Gave You Power and Take It In Blood(my all time favorite NaS joint) over One Love. We talked me out of One Love, but Ether? C'mon man! While I'm on the subject I'll give Renegade its deserved consideration.

October 24, 20169 yr I am nowhere near an authority on Hip Hop, and probably do not belong in this discussion, but since it's related to music I can't help myself. Cover your feet because some toes will undoubtedly be crushed. I jumped on Rap during its inception and developed a limited interest and appreciation for it. No doubt at times I can be moved by it and feel its groove, and at times can be amazed by the cleverness of the wordplay and amazing memories of those who write and deliver it. Since I have varied taste in music I could never devote a large portion of my attention to it because I considered a ton of other stuff much more worth my time. Aside from the aforementioned merits, to me it's a genre of music that can be dramatically redundant, unoriginal, annoying and rarely deviates much from the same same same. A phat beat and someone rambling on in such a similar way to the thousands of other similar sounding ramblings leaves me bored and aching for something truly moving, clever, and original. Something that will interest me, though I am very much into lyrics, has to have more appeal to it than just someone rapping a million words that I've not the attention span or interest to follow. There has to be some musical value that separates it from the pack and makes it all its own and gives it an original groove that keeps me listening. At times I'll hear stuff that makes me take notice because it either screams of originality or cleverness that won't soon get on my nerves. We've all heard the super famous tunes that have broken into mainstream such as Run DMC's Walk this Way, Vanilla Ice's - Ice Ice Baby, Ton Loc's Wild Thing, and deservedly so because they had certain things about them that separated them from the rest while also being interesting and fun. NWA's Straight Outta Compton was undeniably a breakthrough release for Hip Hop as it set the bar, but for me outside of a few tracks its redundancy and tone soon gets on my nerves much like tons of Rap does. I can only stay interested for so long. Eminem can be clever as can be, and at times interesting, but I ultimately find myself saying "Enough dude, please just shut the hell up". A couple of tunes and artists that always stick out to me as at least being original and clever would be something like Mystikal's Shake Ya and Ludacris' What's Your Fantasy. Of course there's many more that could be mentioned, but those two tracks for me are the peak of what Hip Hop can be to show cleverness and originality and still be interesting. I can hear stuff like that and dig it without me instantly thinking that it sounds like the thousands of other Rap songs out there. Sometimes too I like when artists incorporate elements of Rap into legitimate songs where there's way more to the song than just the same same same throughout. I've listened to Liquid Swords in its entirety maybe three times. Loaned the cd to a "friend" and never saw it again.

November 20, 20169 yr Author The title track pushes this record into the top 5 hip-hop records. That's a tough maneuver for me. I am very resistant to change, and I am a hip-hop expert. Almost top 4. "Lyrics are weak like clock radio speakers." Oh my.
