The greatest victory is that they got knocked down alot the last two years but keep getting back up to fight. That's what it's about. Well done youngmen!

I don't know everything, not even close, but I do know I'd take my chances with Stephen Lickert every day of the week.

 

Can you give reasons why?

Most exciting game of the night. CC was up 14-6 late in the fourth quarter. Boone got the ball down inside the ten yard line with time running out. They had 4 downs to score. CC stopped them on 3 plays. 4th down Boone had its jumbo package in and the ball carrier followed the blocks into the end zone. CC up 14-12. Less than 25 seconds on the clock. Boone County got the two point conversion with 24.8 seconds remaining. Fans and players celebrate the tie!

 

BC kicks off and then intercepts on the first play but time runs out. OT.

 

Boone got the ball first on the 10 yard line. They had 4 plays to get in and could not. CC gets their turn at the 10. They run three plays and can get no closer than the 5 yard line. They bring on the field goal kicker. They hike the ball, the kick goes up and it is blocked! Rebel fans go crazy.

 

It goes for a second round of OT and this time CC goes first. Three plays and they get nowhere. On fourth down they go back to pass and throw towards the right corner of the end zone near the goal line. Boone County's Payton Shoemaker deflects the pass away, a sure TD if not deflected. This was the same kid that blocked the FG.

 

So Boone takes over at the 10 and on the first play Ka-Don Harris goes around the end for the score. BC gets the victory. The first win in 3 years. And it came on Senior night. Someone wrote a perfect script for this.

 

Congratulations to the Boone County Rebels for a much deserved win. And a special word of congratulations to all the seniors who have worked so hard and never gave up. I am so happy for them and are very proud of those young men.

I watch the program pretty closely and don't share your view. I don't think teaching accountability and emphasizing effort are detrimental to the "children" and I know a lot of players who do buy in. As for parents of players, it is easy to bad mouth, but it takes a lot of effort to teach your player to be their best, to give their best effort EVERY PLAY, and to sacrifice for the team. The coaches teach this, it is time for the parents to as well.

What a great way for senior night to end! Those boys have been through a lot with all the coaching changes etc since they got to BC. Glad to see them go out with a W on their last home game of the regular season. I'm sure the Rebels of the past were pulling just as hard for them last night.

For a bit of a recap of the rest of the game...

 

Boone County took the kick-off and the offense managed a couple of first downs and then stalled on their 40 yrd line. The subsequent punt bounced off a CC player down field and BC had another opportunity. After several runs failed to get a first down, the Rebels threw a pass deep down the middle on third down. It was intercepted on the 4 yd line, which was as good as a punt. CC took over on offense.

 

After getting a first down out to about the 15 yd line, CC passed out to the 28 where the completed pass was fumbled and BC recovered at about the 25 yd line. Cahill, for Boone, ran about 10 yards to the 15. Morgan took the next carry to the 5. Three plays later and Morgan broke through to the end zone.

 

Looked like the XP was deflected by CC player #37 and the score was Boone Co 6-0 at the end of the first quarter.

 

CC took the kick-off and then began a drive down the field. They got all the way to the BC 5 yd line but were unable to complete a pass in the back of the end zone on fourth down. BC took over on downs deep in their own territory.

 

A penalty on CC gave the Rebels five yards on first down but unable to gain any yards on a run and two incomplete passes, BC punted the ball. From a CC perspective the punt took a serendipitous roll and they took over on the BC 23 yd line.

 

A fourth down keeper by the QB netted a first down at the rebel 12. The next play, RB #5 took a hand-off left, planted his foot and turned up field outside the tackle and wlatzed nearly untouched into the end zone.

 

The extra point made it 7-6 Campbell County.

 

There were MANY penalties by both sides in the first half. Boone's defense jumped offsides several times, assisting CC on the scoring drive.

 

After several long gains by K-D and Cahill the Rebel offense stalled and they punted to the 2 yard line. CC threw a pass down the sideline to a receiver who was well-covered. The DB put his hands up and deflected the ball away even though he was not looking at the ball. Unfortunately, for Boone he was called for face-guarding. If a DB isn't allowed to raise his hands in the air, then I guess that was a correct call. But he didn't stick his hands any where near the receiver's face. He raised his arms like you would if you were just hoping to possibly deflect the ball. The Boone faithful did not care much for the call. Time was running out and Boone went into a prevent-type defense and the half ended with no further scoring.

In another thread I mentioned that one key to victory would be for the Boone defense to get a stop coming out of halftime and prevent any early scoring by CC. Well, Boone kicked off at the start of the third quarter and the ball was fielded by CC's deep man #84 who subsequently ran along the Boone Co fan's sideline and after a good block raced all the way to the end zone with nary a hand laid on him.

 

After the XP was sent over the cross bar and between the uprights, CC led 14-6.

 

Boone got to about the 50 yd line on their next series when CC got a takeaway. I thought, "Oh no, here we go," but the Boone defense held firm and forced a punt after three plays.

 

The third quarter ended with the same score, CC 14, BC 6.

 

The fourth quarter went back and forth with the teams trading punts until Boone mounted a drive. A key play on the drive looked like a broken play when QB Alex Schwartz attempted to hand-off (?) but had to keep the ball. He excellerated through the line, put his head down and ran to the CC 17 yd line for a first down. Schwartz has upped his play in the last two games and threw many catchable balls and used his legs in key situations to keep the Boone offense alive. This play was huge, IMO.

 

Next, K-D drug tacklers along the ground as he advanced to the goal. He is such a strong runner. Morgan powered the ball down to the 1 yd line and then on fourth down took the hand-off and was hit at the line of scrimmage but second effort took him into the endzone. Boone was down by two points 12-14.

 

That set up the 2 point conversion try. CC called timeout. When play resumed the hand-off went to Morgan who angled outside the left tackle and launched himself through the air, over WR Peter Westhoff's hip as he sustained his block on the CB allowing Morgan to land in the end zone and tie the ball game. Boone Co players and fans celebrated the late game heroics and readied themselves for OT. Something felt inevitable after experiencing this late-game come back.

Again, Boone County players, we are proud with how hard you fought for this victory. You did what you had to do every time you needed to do it.

Lol. This post is fantastic. I'm not even the worlds biggest Lickert fan but you're so off base it's not even funny. The guy was successful at Dayton and Holmes... two very tough schools to be successful at. Lickert isn't going anywhere, the guy can coach. Just might be having a tough two seasons.
