The Mustangs continue to chug along, improving to 6-2 on the season and 2-1 in district play upending the Paris Greyhounds 53-34 in Alexandria.

 

Paris made it look easy on their initial offensive series marching right down the field 76 yards for a touchdown when Tayjin Cunningham drew first blood on a 4 yard plunge. Brossart answered quickly when Chase Keller found his favorite receiver Bryce Donnelly on a 45 yard pass play and with 6:14 to go in the quarter we were tied at 7s.

 

Brossart took a 14-7 lead when Bryce Donnelly recovered a Paris fumble and took it to the house. The Hounds came up with a big play after facing first and thirty-five, scoring on a 75 yard Maggard to Jekobi Wells touchdown pass. The Mustangs added two more TDs previous to the half, an 8 yard Pick Six by Jake Sendelbach, and a last-second 2 yard quarterback keeper for a touchdown by Chase Keller. The half ended with the Mustangs on top 27-13.

 

The Hounds, who deferred to the second half marched down the field 69 yards culminated by a 1 yard dive by Cunningham, his second of the night. Quickly the Greyhounds were back in the game at 27-20, advantage Mustangs. A Mustangs score on a 67 yard run by Chase Keller said that his left knee is OK, and added seven points on the scoreboard. With 1:46 to go in the period, Maggard found Eric Johnson for a Paris score, making it 34-26 after three periods.

 

The Mustangs scored on three more occasions in the final stanza salting this one away. Nathan Bezold scored from 3 yards out. Chase Keller scored for the third time on a 6 yard touchdown run, and Jake Sendlebach scored his second TD of the night with a 42 yard scamper. Paris managed a final score at the 4:26 mark of the fourth quarter as Eric Johnson scored again. Final score - 53-34.

 

Next Friday Brossart travels to Berea, while the Paris Greyhounds have a bye week.

Nice synopsis! Kellar healthy is bigger than HUGE for the playoffs. Has anyone done seeding math on tie-breaker should BC, NC, and BB all end up 3-1 in district play? With NC playing BC on their windy hilltop, the three way tie is a real possibility.

Coach Wiggins and his Mustangs are proving to Nky and their district this is an emerging program. By no means are they ready for Beechwood, but I think this program is making a case as the number two 1a program in Nky.

I've watched a lot (nearly all) of the Mustang's football games-including the first twenty-all of which were losses. I'm admitting bias when I say that Brossart does not give up. There have been games when the opponent seemingly tried to hand the game over with penalties and turnovers but the Mustangs were unable to take advantage-but they kept trying, and really seemed to enjoy the battles!. My bias and pride is not so much in their win-loss record as in the fight, determination and pride the team displays when they take the field!

Paris just absolutely blew this game. 5 turnovers, 3 picks, 2 of them taken back for TD's. 2 fumbles. Yet they still managed to keep it close through 3 quarters. Then Brossart put the dagger in the 4th.
