Despite missing essentially half their starters the Pirates take care of the team from Cleveland with little resistance

@Watusi absent from a Belfry thread? What's going on around here?

@LRCW, there's not much to say really. Belfry was absent some very critical starters, but were still a much better team than Warrensville. Coach Haywood ran the most vanilla offense tonight anyone could imagine and the Pirates just methodically did what they had to do to win. Move the chains, punch it in, kick off, play defense, repeat. Once the running clock was established, Belfry subbed liberally and the young guys got some valuable experience, and then the game ended.

Warrensville had less than 5 fans, their team was athletic but played very uninspired and looked like they were just going through the motions. All in all, it was just a blue collar, run of the mill football game. This isn't a knock on the football team, they were very businesslike and they did exactly what they had to do, but this game was very boring for a fan. Maybe because there was no back story, nothing to add any spice to it, no history.

If Warrensville's kids would have stayed for the Homecoming Dance, I bet it would have been more entertaining than the football game.

Thanks Toots. I was really just trying to bump the thread back to page 1

Why missing starters??

Nagging injuries and conservatism. Belfry's early season schedule was brutal and now they are in a 3 game stretch where it makes sense to err on the side of caution to heal up the bumps and bruises. Plus it gives the younger guys meaningful minutes against another team's starters.

Last night Belfry had these starters in street clothes. All these guys are multi year starters.

G Scott

LB/FB Wellman

RB/DB Adkins (been out a while)

DB/K Woolum

DT Horton

And to think this was the best W.H. team in awhile.

Not shocking to see they had no crowd.

I have wanted to go to one of their home games, but was told by my brother in law at the time"they do not like your type there" being he said it was the only place he and his (for lack of better word) gang was afraid to go.

I hope to catch them on the road.
