Instant Replay Mistakes

Featured Replies

I put this in the NFL thread because I think it applies more there, but what prompted this thread is a play overturned in the UC vs. UConn game. There was a pass that was called a TD then overturned by replay. There is absolutely no way anyone can look at that play and rule it wasn't a catch. The receiver's hand was on the ball the entire play and the ball never touched the ground. But that isn't the first questionable call by replay officials this year. We have seen a couple in Bengals games and other games. Which brings me to the question.

How do we fix replay? I contend it is broken. A play is not supposed to be overturned unless it is obviously wrong on replay. Replay officials seem to be overstepping that and putting their own judgment into plays. I don't think that should happen. I think it has to be absolute and clear proof the call is wrong to over turn it.

Is replay getting worse?

OMG!!! Another replay mistake in the UC game. Zero doubt the ball is out before RB hits the ground and the replay official let's the play stand. Replay is not working. The goal is zero mistakes and it looks like replay officials are wrong at least 25% of the time.

See i disagree on one part. I don't think officials are putting their own judgement on it sometimes when they should be actually. Say in the nfl they have told the refs on fumbles to let the plays continue because they can always look at it in replays and overturn. However they also tell refs not to overturn it unless it's 100 percent on the replay. So now as we have seen in two Bengal games, the refs let fumbles happen because they are taught too. However now they have to have complete proof to overturn it.

In two straight Bengal games it was pretty obvious that it shouldn't have been ruled fumbles, however since there may have been a 1 percent chance that it wasnt complete visual evidence, they didn't overturn it. When in reality if they used their own judgement basically any other person would have said the knee was down. There is so much inconsistency, when sometimes common sense needs to come into play.

Never thought I'd say this... but get rid of replay....

It makes the games drag on too long and ruins and offensive teams' flow...

Also, and most importantly, officials are getting way too many calls wrong after they review it... So, I'll take a better flowing game with a blown call over a game where they stop action for 5 minutes and get it wrong anyway...

Another questionable replay decision in the Navy/Houston game. Replay official takes a first down away from Navy.

Sounds like an issue with the AAC Replay Officials more than an indictment on all replays...at least in these two cases.

What about the calls in the Bengals games? And there have been other replay official mistakes in other games.

As we know, the Refs on the field actually get it right the vast majority of the time...but still can miss a few calls. In comes Replay, which looks at those misses on the field and corrects even more of the on field mistakes.

So the way I look at it is this way,

Before Replay, let's say Ref's blow 10 calls a game...out of 100 plays.

Replay now corrects 8 of those 10, but still miss on 2 of those.

Officiating in this scenario went from 90% accuracy to 98% accuracy when all is said and done.

Will never happen. They still need replay although I agree it could be done better. Even though mistakes are made now in replay reviews, the uproar would be unbelievable if they got rid of it and obvious mistakes were not corrected.

I wouldn't mind seeing a strict time limit enforced on replay... and a short one...

Refs on field wait 1 minute for a replay official in the booth to make the call...

If no call is made... play stands... move on.
