X has played Male tighter during the Wolford Era, but just can't get a W. Could be way off here, but I think X is finally able to knock of the Bulldogs as Ridder makes key plays to keep the pressure on the Male offense to score points and also by keeping the X defense on the sideline.

Not sure what you mean by playing closer during the Wolford era. Glaser did not lose to Male in the regular season or the playoffs from 2007-2012. In fact, most of the games during this time were blowouts for the Tigers.

Going back to the pre-Wolford era - we can find some pretty alarming statistics. In the years before Wolford arrived, Coach Glaser and X beat Male 41-0 / 55-14 / 57-7 / 56-10 (all teams coached by Wolfe).

During the same time, Trinity beat Male 38-7 and 44-0 (also teams coached by Wolfe).

 

The more I look at this stuff, I start to think it doesn't have very much to do with Glaser, Wolford, Beatty or even Wolfe (almost great coaches)...and a lot more to do with the KIDS at Male the past 4 seasons. How in the world did the talent shift like that? We're talking night and day results...almost an overnight flip of the script when the 2016 class arrived on the Male campus!!!

Absolutely! The top middle school students are going to Male instead of other places, which would be my guess as to why Male is back from where they were 5, 6, or 7 years ago. I've said it before, Louisville high school football is better when Male is good, and I hope they can keep up their top level performance.

Wolfe publicly stated he actively goes into the "traditional" middle schools and gives a sales pitch to the athletes on why they should cast their lot with Male. It is legal as long as he does not promise playing time. With Manual attracting many athletes, that does not leave a whole lot for the rest of Jefferson County Public Schools and it shows.

Dissapointed can't go to game since UofL playing Fri night. Hate that college games are sometimes on Fridays.

Unless you are being paid to work the U of L game, it is a personal choice by you to miss St Xavier/Male. There is no way I would ever consider missing a Trinity/Male to attend U of L vs Duke. If you were a letterman for U of L football, I can see that allegiance running deeper.

I believe Trinity is 2-5 vs Male during the Wolford era, just beat the Bulldogs this season & in the playoffs 2014, but's who's counting?! :thumb: lol

Trinity is 7-5 in the Wolfe era against Male. 2010 T beat Male in the State title game(1), 2011 T won both(2) meetings, 2012 T won both(2) meetings, 2013 Male won both(2) meetings, 2014 split 1-1 both overtime games, 2015 Male won both(2) games, 2016 T has won(1) the only game thus far. Hence the 7-5 record.

There are only 3 traditional middle schools out of 20+ in the district. The rise of Male has very little to do with the city's best showing favor and more to do with better coaching at one of the two traditional high schools.

Wolfe at Butler with Butler's players doesn't accomplish what he did at Male with those players. To say otherwise is erroneous. Wolfe is a good coach but to say that the talent that Male had in the class of 2016 wasn't the biggest factor in their success is just wrong. Beatty is a good coach but Trinity doesn't win the "National" championship in 2011 without the players on that team.

It can be argued that Wolfe also underacheived with his super class (16) as well winning only one title!
