Covington Catholic at Beechwood (Frosh)

Featured Replies

If you guys want to talk about officiating, I've got a long list of plays to go over. Lol.

It's bad both ways. I've been impressed with the freshman refs all year up until tonight. The ref doesn't even know the proper hand signals.

28-7, CovCath. End of 3rd.

I apologize in advance for the spelling of the name of the young lady who kicked the Beechwood PAT. She was not on the roster I had.

Thanks to Theoldguy for posting the game summary.

That was an ugly game. Beechwood had 7 turnovers in the game. Covington Catholic had 2 turnovers. There was another turnover by Covington Catholic on an interception by Beechwood on the first series of the game that was called back and no one knows why. That was a big call because Beechwood returned the interception to the 15 yard line. The referee signalled block in the back causing everyone to think it was still Beechwood's ball, but they marched off a ten yard penalty against Beechwood and gave the ball back to Covington Catholic.

Regardless of bad officiating (against both teams), injured and missing players, and turnovers, Covington Catholic is the better team this year. The front seven of Covington Catholic's defense is too big for Beechwood. Beechwood had trouble running the ball for the first time this year. They missed having the speed of starting RB/LB Mitchell Corts who is out with an injury and they could not run between the tackles against the size of the Colonels.

Josh Derry was a beast for the Tigers. Blake Sheherd also played very well.

The Colonels Michael Mayer lived up to his billing. He is a big strong and athletic player. The Tigers actually did a decent job containing him overall. Josh Lawrie was also impressive for the Colonels and Zimmerman had a number of nice plays.

The Colonels mixed other players into the game with their starters in the second half.

It'll be interesting to watch some of these kids develop over the next few years as there was a lot of talent on the field tonight. The Mayer kid is the most intriguing as he's already a large target at 6'4".

Could somebody post the Beechies frosh schedule/results for this season?
