3A Surprises/Disappointments

Featured Replies

Now that we are right on the edge of district play, it's time to make an assessment of pre-district play. In your opinion, which team(s) in Class 3A had the best first month of the season? Who was the biggest disappointment?

I think Casey County has been a big surprise this year. I'd probably include Bardstown in that surprise category.

As far as a let down? I don't really know if I would have one. Of the top tier teams who don't have great records, it's because they've had a challenging schedule.

You know who I am personally disappointed in? Belfry. I picked them to go 15-0, and here they are making me look like a fool.

100 years worth of history says that was a bad prediction, right @Watusi ?! :lol2:

Hey, I believed that this was going to be the year. It's gotta happen eventually, right?

Bardstown has gone from 2-3 thru 5 from last year to 5-0. Pleasant surprise.

LexCath has fallen from 3-3 thru 6 last year to 1-5 with a 41 -0 victory against Madison Central in 2015 and a loss to them in 2016 by 13 in 2016.

I think our early expectations were too high for Catholic. They lost so much on offense. I do think they'll be primed and ready once the postseason comes around, though.

I agree with that sentiment but a 54 point against Madison Central is HUGE.

I guess the law of averages has to kick in some time, but their schedule, which is a wee bit tougher than average, makes it unlikely.

Then you know what? Consider me to be a hardcore Belfry Believer. That's who I am. A Belfry Believer.

In all honesty, I fully did expect Belfry to run it this year. I thought they had the pieces and tools to do it, regardless of their schedule.

if anything...I think Belfry has been a pleasant surprise. They've not shied away from playing the big boys. They've lived, practiced and dealt with the bright spotlight and pressure since last December of repeating. Additionally...they have been hurt/injured/banged up since DAY 1. In fact, I would venture to say they've not had 30 offensive/defensive plays with an entire complement of their starters. Now...I'm not making excuses for last weeks game. We were awful offensively (turnovers and penalties). But....I never came into the season expecting to go 15-0. IMO, very few Haywood teams are built that way.....especially since the 2007 season. Belfry has amped their schedule up to the point that, at some point in time, big boy football is gonna take a bite out of you here and there. I'm ok with that....especially since he's proven his formula/strategy has measurable success. Undefeated season would have been great.....but, really, that would have been for the fans. IMO, Haywood could have backed off schedule wise...and still be the odds on favorite to win in December. But....IMO, he's trying to develop this kids into more than just good football players. There are lessons to be learned thru adversity.......
