Bluegrasspreps' Class 4A Rankings - Discussion (9/26)

FS beat a SW team who lost somewhere around 19 seniors. Lord know how many injuries and not to mention the one injury during the game that possibly could have costed SW the game. You guys over on the west side of the state and keep drinking the kool-aid!

SW was healthy outside of one starter and two non key players in the FS game. You guys talked smack last year about the west and packed a whooping. SW, FS, JH, Hoptown, whichever gets to you will give beat you. Hope to see you in Dec. JC will be there, right?

4A vs. 1A shouldn't really "mean something".

That said, I cannot believe I am saying this, but I don't understand how FS is not #1 at this point.

Them FS boys have finally grown up!

SW is not even the team they were last year. Your going to tell me they are of course because FS come out ahead. You got me JC got beat pretty soundly last year in the CHAMPIONSHIP GAME! They were very banged up and that's just part of the game. This year things are shaping up pretty good this year. But here in Johnson County we better understand that we just can't compete with you guys in the West. I hope your team stays healthy and that we get back again this year.

The fact that it's been going on for 70 years and both teams have had a history of success makes it mean something. Both fan bases love the game and show up no matter the records of either team or the location of the game.

Regarding the ranking...we all know that means relatively nothing. Haven't you heard? We got lucky twice and beat better teams.

The irony is that I think Franklin is better than both teams, but there is no doubt that Franklin got lucky against Greenwood. South, not so much. I think the Wildcats should have put that game away well before the end, but kept having mistakes that killed drives. They had so many opportunities before the one they made good on. After watching that final pass, it's not as wild as I thought it was when watching the Periscope feed on Twitter. I thought it was triple coverage, when in reality it was two routes in the same vicinity, and I don't think either South player ever saw the ball coming. And ultimately, the ball was right on target and he made the catch. I've seen more than one (heck, about twenty) this season that were put right on the hands and dropped. Janes reeled it in and deserves credit for that. The Greenwood one, that's pure luck. You credit the receiver for not breaking off his route, but he wasn't even the intended target, and that was beyond flukish. It was an awful pass that worked out in the most incredible way. The South one is about what the defenders could have done to break up the pass. The Greenwood one is about doing almost literally anything BUT knocking it straight up into the air.

Johnson Central is a power run team that ran into a team that you basically literally couldn't run against. There is no dominant run D like that in 4A this year. In all the years I've watched football around here, I've never seen a run D as good as that one. It was a poor matchup for Johnson Central. You guys act like Johnson Central got "whooped" worse than every other team in the west did last year against South. The reality is, they lost by 30, just like Shelby County, and a whopping three points more than either Franklin-Simpson or Allen County-Scottsville. Shelby County was running clocked. There was one team above the rest, and then there were several teams that could have conceivably won state if South Warren simply didn't exist.

I think each team you named has an excellent shot. As does Johnson Central, as does Wayne County. This is a different year, and there is not a dominant team. There is a good argument for a few teams to be top dog, and we don't know exactly what will happen this time around. That's a good thing! Let's enjoy it, and not pretend there's an absolute for either side.

I gave Janes credit in the Greenwood game for not giving up on the play not his route.

What Janes does that is impressive for a high school kid is he watches the ball right into his hands.

He caught the pass in OT that beat Hoptown. He caught the deflection that beat Greenwood. He caught the pass that beat South Warren. There seems to be a pattern here.

The kid has incredible concentration, everyone around him disappears. It's just him and the ball. Or he is the luckiest high school player in Kentucky.

I never said that SW was the same team. I just said they were pretty much healthy team when they played last Friday night. No one ever said it was the same team.

Come on D-Fire, don't be so short sighted...the '05 BG Defense went trough a span of 12 games in which they pitched 8 shutouts, 7 of them in a row, and gave up a total of 27 points in 48 quarters of football. In that run was a 9-3 Trigg team, a 12-2 Warren Central team, an 8-4 Franklin team, a 7-4 East team, a 7-5 Tighman team, and a 9-4 Hoptown team.

South was an incredible machine last year, but that '05 BG Defense was insanity.
