polarbear1994 Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 I dont know if its even happened before, but if someone could help me out it would be nice. Has a district loser ever won the State Tournament or even made a deep run for that matter?
ColonelCrazy Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 I'm not sure, but I do know that in '04 in the 1st region, every district loser went on to win their 1st round game in the regional tournament.

Very good question.:thumb: I'll guess that it has happened, but off the top of my head I can't name who it may have been. I'll get back to you.

Armchair Coach Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Off the top of my head I think Lafayette in 79.It may have been their only loss.
KIDS FAN Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 Off the top of my head I think Lafayette in 79.It may have been their only loss. Nice call. From what I can find Lafayette in 1979 is the only one to do it. The talent loaded team of Miiniefield(UK), Willson(WKU), Johnson(Cincy) and Rose(Transy I think) lost to Tates Creek in the district final and then cruised to the finals.
polarbear1994 Posted September 4, 2006 Author Posted September 4, 2006 Thanks for checking into that for me!!
TubbyCAT Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 That Lafayette team was a very, very good basketball team. Minnifield was un-real and could handle the rock so well.
The Scribe Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 The 1985 Hopkinsville team lost to Christian County 72-69 in the 8th District title game, then beat CC 56-55 in the 2nd region title game. They then beat Greenup County, Paintsville, Oldham County, and Clay County to win the state title.
KIDS FAN Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 Didn't realize there was another. Thanks Scribe.
coachi Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Edmonson County in 1976 (?) was a district runner up. Bo Davenport was the only coach in KY to have never won a district, but won the State.
polarbear1994 Posted September 8, 2006 Author Posted September 8, 2006 This topic is going a lot better than I expected.
