Not having Adkins worries me this week. Browning played well at Safety but his lack of height scares me with the potential for jump balls with these KnoxCath thoroughbreds that are over 6'1

That and we have been playing some green guys at OLB/DE and this will be a test for them. Gonna be entertaining.

Here's a little insight on Catholic from Knoxville:

 

Catholic was riddled with injuries last year until late in the season. When they got healthy, they got on a run and won the state title in 4A. They actually finished third in their region and had to win on the road throughout the playoffs, including a couple of wins over teams they had lost to earlier in the year. Most of that team is back.

 

They were dominant in the game they had to forfeit. They played an ineligible freshman late in the 4th quarter in a game that was never close.

 

Their best receiver, Amari Rogers, is committed to Clemson. He is Tee Martin's son. Tee was Tennessee's quarterback during the 1998 national championship season. They have a junior offensive lineman, Cade Mays, committed to Tennessee.

 

They played quite a bit last season without their quarterback and Chase Kurchesen, who also has several FBS offers. He is probably their best overall player, but he was also hurt for the first half of the season last year.

 

Catholic is really good. Much better than they were last year.

 

For NFL fans, Catholic is the alma mater of Harrison Smith, the Pro Bowl safety for the Vikings.

To say I am excited for this game is a major understatement.

 

My wife, who has worked the last three nights and just got off work, even told me if I wanted to leave early she would be willing to drive to Knoxville with me on about 4.5 hours of sleep. I am going to just watch it online, but 7:30 can't come soon enough

One last thought..

 

Obviously this game is garnering a lot of deserved attention from to different states, and much has been made of the College Prospects playing. I get this sneaking suspicion that if Belfry wins this game it will be a guy who doesn't have a D1 offer right now that will make the plays.

I kind of take Offense to that statement about Belfry's LB's and CB's.. especially after watching video of their competition. I think "athlete" is a very mis-used term. Athlete doesn't mean "fastest". Compared to Fulton for example, I would agree 100% that Fulton had faster players in the back half of their D. With that said, having watched Fulton I wouldn't trade Wellman, Hall, Catron, Varney, and Woolum for Fulton's entire 2-deep.

 

When I think "athlete" I think the complete package. How you move your hips, how you jump, how you process what you see and react, how hard you hit, your hand eye coordination, how strong you are, etc. Fulton was an abysmal tackling team. Sure they could get to you in a hurry because they were fast, but once they got to the KnoxCath receivers they couldn't make a play with a tackle.

 

I just have this suspicion that if the game turns in Belfry's favor tonight we will be talking about how one of these guys made an "athletic" play. A leaping Interception, a big hit across the middle to dislodge the ball, a strip fumble, a key tackle on 4th and 8 that leaves them a yard short.

IMO....Noah Corbett will be the difference maker offensively tonight. How he goes and how he's defended will determine the overall direction of Belfry's offense. If he can't be contained....it could be a long, long night for Catholic. As lethal as the fullback is in Haywood's scheme...when he has a QB who possesses the abilities Corbett does....the offense becomes almost nightmarish. Don't be surprised if you see Belfry put the ball in the air a couple of times.

That was a good article. A little reckless with a few details, but still a good read.

 

The comment you refer to ended with "but they are very well coached and will be in the right spots". That sums up the rest of your thoughts on the issue and emphasizes a key difference between Belfry and the other competition KC has played. Fundamentals.

 

Football games are still won because of fundamental blocking and tackling. Belfry is very very well coached and they are fundamentally sound. I'll take that team 100% of the time against a team that is more athletic, but less disciplined.

This is shaping up to be a war and I'm excited for this game more than almost any game in recent memory. I can't wait to see how it plays out.
