Dwight sings Purple Rain

Featured Replies

Just played it with Mrs. Lawnboy in the room.....and she is a big country music fan and her exact words, "leave it to a hillbilly to ruin a great song".

Count me in the camp with @Jim Schue

My "oh my" and tears smiley were because I found it to be very emotional. I liked it, and it made me sad because Prince is dead.

Sorry, count me in with @spindoc & @woodsrider. :lol2:

This is stellar. I don't think the article outright says it, but will this be on his next album?

Yes, I believe so -- it is already available on Spotify.

I'm a big fan of Dwight Yoakam, but I don't care of his version of this song. Usually I like covers that are a completely different style than the original but this one just doesn't work for me.

"Swimmin' Pools, Movie Stars" is released Friday. "Purple Rain" is the last track on it. Features Bluegrass-tinged re-recordings of his older songs, plus the Prince cover.

His last two albums since his comeback have been amazing. I feel pretty good about buying this new record.

This version is not a Country song. It's Bluegrass.
