September 9, 201610 yr It’s time to stop talking about racism with white people - The Washington Post I'll point out a problem right away with his article . He talks about a growing problem of police violence in the first few sentences when I don't believe statistics back that up , then a little bit later talks about how stats back the argument up. He then says police forces are "filled" with bad cops. Which would imply a large number of bad cops. From an intellectual stand point in any discussion it's hard for to respect quitting a discussion because people may be critical or not agree.
September 9, 201610 yr So if you post something I have to agree with . Very dishonest conversation. Pointing out fallacies in statements is now a bad things. Who cares if someone is making statements that are false or stretching the truth. Should we only respond if we agree?

I simply found it comical that literally one minute after his post, you did exactly what everyone knew you'd do, regardless of the content of the article; dismiss it.
September 9, 201610 yr I thought he made a good point on the " black lives matter " paragraph , and he made a good argument. But I'm sorry if the majority of it comes off as angry anti anyone who isn't black. You can write this article 100 different times and say " It's the truth". It doesn't make it so. If your answer is ignore white people and that's your solution, then fine do it. Don't talk about it do it , let's see how it works.
September 9, 201610 yr Anyways... I certainly understand the authors feelings that this has become a waste of time. I've spent countless hours on several forums and in-person conversations trying to discuss these issues with white people, giving my perspective and listening to others. There has always been at least one person in all those situations that absolutely refused to see it from the black perspective. Those folks, it absolutely is a waste of time. It's hard to continue these debates with people who just don't want to hear the truth of the situations. I won't stop having these discussions with people, because there are some who are truly trying to understand, and try to help how they can. We aren't looking for people to agree with everything we say. We're just looking for understanding of the perspective without total and immediate dismissal. Sadly, some people just aren't worth the time.

I read the article and gave my honest feedback. There is a difference between dismissing and disagreeing. There is some fallacy in the black community that if you disagree with any points they make then you aren't listening or understanding. Post an article I'll read it and if their are points I disagree with I state them. I'm not going to hold back to make people feel better. We are adults. If an author wants to come off as some higher being of intellect who gets "it". Then he should not make statements that can be proven wrong with statistics in his first two paragraphs.
September 9, 201610 yr I don't dismiss any sort of struggle . I grew up in house where constructive criticism helps you create a stronger argument. If I was dismissive why would I take my time at work to read an entire article if I didn't want to understand where this author was coming from?
