Well so far Prestonsburg has refused to play them!!

Prestonsburg's non-district games this year:

 

Leslie Co. @ Hazard (a "Bowl" invite)

Pikeville @ home

Paintsville @ home

Ashland @ home

 

1st game - This was the third consecutive year the Blackcats have been invited to participate. The event is VERY well run and our team/staff is well received. The folks in Hazard have been nothing but top-notch.

 

2nd and 3rd games - Pikeville and Paintsville are traditional rivals from long ago. The games are usually closely contested and always well attended. What more can one ask ?

 

4th game - Ashland is a traditional football power. Two of the three games have been very close, well-attended and just a LOT of fun (don't want to talk about the 3rd game...LOL).

 

 

With all that said...which of these opponents should Prestonsburg buy out of their contract (which are -with the exception of the first- home games) to add Central ??

 

and with that answered...

 

What particular advantage(s) does Prestonsburg reap that it doesn't get with its current opponents ?!? I've yet to hear one, with the possible exception of stopping the Eagle fans' (and coach's ?) name calling (ie, "chicken", "afraid", etc)...

 

And please don't say "money", either. Prestonsburg's football program is VERY well funded...

For reasons that are steeped in nothing but selfishness and a desire to see good football games, I hope Ashland vs Prestonsburg stays on the table. With the geographic proximity of the P'burg and JC schools, I can see where the matchup would be way too attractive to pass up. Given the choices and dropping the selfish rationale, I would drop the first season bowl game. How could you give up Paintsville (same reasons JC is attractive) and Prestonsburg vs Pikeville has got to be a big draw for you guys in Floyd Co.

I'm not gonna post a score cause I never do. But from what I've saw so far it sounds like it will be a heck of a game to bad I wont be able to make it for a family reunion. And nothing against Logan but I guess from the sounds of what everyone thinks will happen this won't be that bad of a game to miss. Anyways from the sounds of it Central will stroll:walk: away with another victory. :thumb:

Do these games allow JC to improve or is it just a scheduling coincidence that the first few games are real cupcakes? I understand the 1st game "tuneups" but wonder if too many bunny games & easy wins early in the season helps a team in the longrun.

Well as well all now schedules are usually made for 2 years. JC first game, The Cumberland Valley Bowl, was a game that JC was forced to play this year and wasnt much of a contest BUT last year JC played a good passing attack in South Laurel which helped JC in the end of the season with its defensive problems. Logan last year put up huge passing #'s on JC and scored i believe 46 points which gave JC another solid passing threat to gain experience off of. JC scheduled this teams last year in my opinion to get ready for the passing threat of Ashland and Mason Co. and did very well in those games last year holding both to under 100 yds passing and also low scores.

 

JC played what many would thought would be a solid team in North Laurel and a great QB in Chris Smith from South Point. I believe that even though these games have had wide spreads in the scoring margin JC is benefiting from these games. JC has a lot of depth this year and that is what teams are going to have a problem with this year when they face them this year. There is no one lone star but many good players at all positions which will make it hard to game plan against along with a solid passing attack. Logan will probably be a blow out but should give JC another passing attack to take on which will help in the later parts of the season.

Even if we get some rain tomorrow, the crowd will be as big if not bigger than last weeks. Johnson county has wanted and needed a football program to get behind for a very long time. JC finally has a something to be proud of in terms of football. IF and that is a big IF... JC goes into the ashland game undefeated, the crowd for that game will be larger than last years apple bowl.

Money is one reason. Two it would get them ready to play a team like belfry. JC is a team that will put the ball on the ground and eat up alot of clock. I would say replace the first game with JC.

That is one thing JC can do is eat up the clock. Last year's team could score in one play or take 10 minutes to score. Depending on the circumstance. This year's team can do the same thing, but there is alot more options than last year. Everybody in the state knew to stop ron blume. This year, JC finally has somewhat of a passing game with taylor, meeks, dials, tackett and others for J.K. to throw to. The backfield this year is probably better than last years b/c there is alot more quality players for matney to choose from... like johnson, welch, dillion, grimm. Remember the Boyd County game last year and JC had that 8 minute drive late in the game that sealed the deal. Just like a basketball team that plays "stall ball", they can slow down the pace and put their opponent in a lax, then strike. That is how JC's team is this year. Stall ball may not be a crowd pleaser, but it wins ballgames.

The county school a long time has indeed wanted a top quality football program. The desire has always been there.

This would be a good time to have turf on the field. The worst I have ever seen a field due to "rain" was 2004 at Montgomery County. There was no rain for 3 or 4 days prior to the game, every other peice of grass was dry, but not the field.

Hopefully somebody will be on here tonight doing updates for all those in BGP land.

I cant ever remember seeing a high school football game in the snow. I have seen flurries and some very light snow at games. But not a real heavy snow. Maybe this year, who knows.
