futurecoach
I guess having a guy who loves to catch punts inside the 10 is the answer. You realize this post holds very little water, since you seem to act like Tate didn't do that? Tate always faired caught those same ones inside the 10 his whole Bengal career. At least Erickson being a rookie is an excuse for him. Tate was doing that even with experience. Move on man, the Bengals made the right move. They got a younger version who seems to be reliable to catch it, with also possible better return ability and more upside as a wr. Tate is a great dude, but this is a business and when a young guy can do the same or better than an older guy, then you keep the older guy every time. Voice of Reason
I like the old philosophy of not fair catching a punt inside the 10. I would rather take my chances with the ball rolling into the end zone. I would tell my returner wave for fair catch and slowly move to the left or right like they were going to catch the ball to hopefully pull the return team away from where the ball actually hits to increase chances it rolls into the end zone.
