newarkcatholicfan Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 A dumb question from the Ohio guy.:angrybird8:
NKYknowitall Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 Probably due to not enough 'good' schools OR not enough interest from other parties. This is just a random guess.
Jim Schue Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 For teams that sign 2-year contracts to appear in someone else's bowl, you're losing a home game at least one of those years had you scheduled a traditional home-and-home with another school.
Ram Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 I think you have to put it in perspective. Kentucky has 223 football playing schools, Ohio has something like 750. Some guesses: 1. Kentucky has a smaller number of schools spread over a large area. 2. Kentucky doesn't have a concentration of large schools in one area like Ohio who has more large cities. 3. There is a large disparity of school size in each area, not allowing many schools of similar size to play each other.
TribePride Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 In my area its due to the economic hardship. You would hear the term "Coal Bowl" thrown around every other week or so. Many coal companies, that are still in function, simply can't provide the funds for bowl games anymore. We held the Teco Coal Bowl, 3 game grid between KY and VA schools, and now we can't get a single company to help contribute.
Hasbeen Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 Knox Central opens with Madison Central in the Roy Kidd Bowl, followed by Waggoner in the Cumberland Falls Pigskin Classic @ Corbin, before taking on Southwestern in Clay County's Appalachian Bowl. They have a hard time finding opponents for regular season games and the bowls give games plus revenue. Sucks to only play 3-4 home games a year but it is what it is.
plantmanky Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 Sponsorship are getting hard to come by, specifically ones that will pay enough to provide payouts to the teams to come. Attendance at games isnt what it used to be, if people arent paying the gate, there is not money to run the event.
