ggclfan Posted August 8, 2016 Posted August 8, 2016 Jim Furyk became the first member of the PGA Tour "58 club" Sunday. I read that there have been between 1 million and 1.5 million PGA Tour event rounds played and his round Sunday is the only 58...ever. He is also a member of the "59 club". There aren't many in that club either (Geiberger, Beck, Appleby, Duval, Furyk and one or two more that I am sure I am forgetting). Think about this. There have been less than 10 sub 60 rounds ever in PGA Tour history and Furyk has TWO of them! Tiger, Phil, Jack, Arnie, Gary Player, Lee Trevino, Johnny Miller, etc. have combined for exactly zero. Interesting facts about the round. He was 11 under after 12 holes. He was ONLY 1 under the last 6 holes. The 6 holes included a par 5 which he parred and a drivable par 4 that he only parred. On the par 5 he drove it into a divot so he could not get a 3 wood on the second shot and go for the green in two. His 8 footer for birdie lipped out. In other words his 58 could have EASILY been a 56 or 57 (he did hole out for eagle from 135 yds on a par 4). Great stuff by 46 year old Jim Furyk...
Jumper_Dad Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 Great Round...no one will remember who won, but no one in golf will forget this round.
gchs_uk9 Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 Does it change anything or any opinions since it was a Par 70? Maybe it's just the Olympics and football starting but there hasn't been a ton of talk about it.

For comparison, he was almost as good, with his golf clubs and a much smaller and lengthier target, as Andre Drummond at the charity stripe.

Not in my opinion, that course at that distance would have been a par 72 a couple of decades ago...he still got around it in 58.

Also, I look at what the other best scores were on the course that week (under the same conditions). It's not like everybody was shooting 62's and 63's on that course all week. It played tough enough.
woodsrider Posted August 9, 2016 Posted August 9, 2016 Saw where Cabrera had a 3 down on 14 instead of a 4 on his card. They got it before Furyk signed and turned in the card.
