To grain or not to grain, that is the question.

I thought I was crazy giving this a shot for 3 weeks. However, I have a jiu jitsu tournament coming up and I want no part of going against guys weighing in at 240 lbs, so I felt like I had to try something. I'm in week 3. This way of living isn't too bad. My stomach feels great and I am down 4 lbs without dropping calories. It did take a few days to get used to it. Anyone tried Paleo, or this style, Primal way of eating?

I've done Paleo but more hardcore than Mark preaches. If I recall correctly Mark allows some dairy (could be wrong). My diet was based on Robb Wolf's teachings. He is super hardcore Paleo. If you have food allergies or you struggle with weight issues or just want a healthier way of living there probably isn't a better option.

I've never gone full Paleo, but I've tried dumping grains from my diet. I still have some bread now and then, but I don't keep it around the house like I used to.

Mark's method is much easier. I like being able to have yogurt. I also appreciate his adapting. He seems to continually receive information with an open mind. How many paleo guys promote a carb load for people working out extremely hard? Not many.

Can you tell a difference?

Yea, a little bit. I don't know if it's the lack of grains or because I have to eat better across the board to make up for it. I eat a lot more real food to replace it. I never weigh myself or try to lose weight, so I don't know how much of a difference it makes, but I suspect it does.

Definitely few and far between

I primarily eat no grains, bread, pasta, rice, ...., ect. I stay away from potatoes, as well, and way away from anything with sugar in it.

Every once in a great while, I'll have something I'm not allowed to, but I really don't miss the carbs/grains. It seems not to bother my weight when do step outside the lines, though.

I initially lost 50 lbs and have been maintaining that for over a year, now. Mostly with diet.

It's going to be tough tell if removing grains from your diet helps if you don't do it completely for at least 30 days. It can take that long to for your body to completely flush the toxins.

Lifestyle/diet changes are good. Fad diets are not.

Not sure which way you are going with your post but Paleo is far from a fad. I don't even consider it a "diet".

Are hops grain?

Not sure but do know beer isn't Paleo. One of the reason's I could do strict Paleo for long. The only alcohol Robb Wolf lists as acceptable is Tequila.

If you consider it a lifestyle or diet it is good. Only place I was going with it.

Haven't heard good things about the 30 days drop a bunch or weight, drink a lot of shakes and than go back to old diet. Not familiar with Paleo.
