June 30, 201610 yr I'm taking Mom and going to Memphis for a few days in the middle of July. We are going to do the Elvis things and have a few other things on our list to do, but was looking for a few ideas. My list so far is: Elvis things · Graceland and the museums · Sun Studio · Overton Park Shell · Lauderdale Courts apartments · Humes High School · Poplar Tunes (yes I know it's closed, but still want to see the building) · the House of Audubon Drive Other things · Beale Street and the night life · the Civil Rights museum · Bass Pro Shops at the Pyramid · free "Band of Heathens" concert at the Levitt Shell (Overton Park) on Thursday night What do you recommend that I look into? Thank you.
June 30, 201610 yr Marching of the ducks at the Peabody, pretty sure they have an ultra cool rooftop party there or around there in the evening. I'd also go check out Christian Brothers University. :sssh::lol2:
June 30, 201610 yr Go to the Kooky Canuck restaurant and, if you are hungry, try the Kookamonga Challenge. A 4 pound hamburger that, if you finish it in 60 minutes, is on the house. Fun place, good food. Was featured on "Man vs Food".
June 30, 201610 yr Gus's Fried Chicken is a real treat, I eat there at least once every time I go. Central BBQ is my favorite. Payne's is my 2nd favorite. Blues Hall is my favorite blues bar. We like to get there and grab the table by the window, listen to some great blues and people watch. If you want something a little different to eat, I highly recommend Pearl's Oyster House. If you like hot sauce, grab a bottle of Papi Joe's Tennessee Pepper Sauce. I know they sell it at Pearl's they may have it other places too. Wear sunscreen, it's hot there this time of year. Also, be prepared for humid.

Fun place, good food. Was featured on "Man vs Food". The burger is huge! If you don't feel like eating that. They have a great menu. Get a burger from Dyer's. It's right on Beale Street. You won't be disappointed one bit. The cook the burgers in 100+ year old grease and it taste amazing! Flying Saucer is a great place to grab a beer as well.

June 30, 201610 yr I never went when I was down there, but I heard that Mud Island was a neat/historic place to check out.

June 30, 201610 yr In all seriousness, be careful. It is easy to take a wrong turn down the wrong street in Memphis. Get VERY familiar with a map of the area and stay to the larger streets.
June 30, 201610 yr Once had an interesting experience at dusk in Memphis after making a wrong turn. A black police officer turned around and stopped me. Asked why I was there and after hearing the explanation, he said he would follow me back to the interstate to make sure I was safe. He said I had no business where I was and we had to get out of there before dark. True story.
