This is way different than never hiring any minorities, thanks for clarifying.

I guess I assumed incorrectly and maybe naively, but I always thought that race was on the application to help ensure that they were an Equal Employment Opportunity organization? Meaning that if they needed to raise their minority numbers in their organization, they would potentially pull from applicants within that pool of race.

I'm sure that's why, but if we want to level the playing field race shouldn't have to be considered when hiring people.

Funny you mentioned nobody applied, I was thinking about that typing my post. I wonder if companies word postings or somehow deter minorities from applying all together? If minorities simply just aren't applying, it can't be the companies fault for not employing any.

I think the biggest general issue is stereotyping all black people. This can lead back to black people helping themselves, because a lot of stereotypes are true.

In this case it was at a plant nursery where we grew and sold landscape plants.

I'm asking because I can't think of it, but how would a job posting be worded to deter minorities? What kind of wording would be used for that?

Isnt that racist though by the letter of the law, you're hiring someone because of their race?

Most job applications and postings are specific to include minorities to avoid any litigations.

I've never filled out an application where the race/gender questions weren't optional.

Are there seriously applications that require you to fill them out?

Completely agree with you. Sometimes the things we put in place to help with equality, wind up actually hurting equality.

For example, are you hiring the best person for the job? Or are you hiring the Asian woman because she hits two demographics that you need to make your organization look better in regards to equal opportunity.

Please don't anyone take that as me saying the white man is being held down. It's just interesting stuff. Reminds me of the Father and his stories in American History X. Only thing, there are a lot more stories on the other side.

I think they are always optional. I might be wrong, but I think it's illegal to require it.

I'm not trying to paint you into any sort of category, don't take it that way. Just asking.

I can understand how geography and the type of work could limit the amount of minorities that would apply.

All good, I didn't take it that way. On the flip side, I have had several customers of many different races, religions, creeds, and nationalities. My only issue is with customers that speak limited English, or even have EXTREME broken, accented English..........this creates a huge disconnect when trying to really communicate with customer. But, that's for another thread.

Correct. Live in Warsaw, but work in Walton.

Oh I don't know either, I was kind of thinking out loud myself.

I'd say the type of work is a much bigger deterrent.

Agree. Hiring someone because they ARE black is just as bad as not hiring them for the same reason, IMO.
