June 24, 201610 yr This has been a difficult year for deaths in the music world. I got to shake his hand once and exchange words, and I'm glad for that.
June 24, 201610 yr I loved his sound...probably listen to him tonight as I fall to sleep. He was a Giant in all music...not just Bluegrass music.
June 25, 201610 yr My dad used to drag me to bluegrass festivals in eastern KY when I was younger. He would drink and dance and I would drive him home. I have seen Dr Ralph Stanley many of day. I loved his version of Uncle Pen and I"ll fly away. Seen him once with Ricky Scaggs and they where great together. My wife hates bluegrass but every once in a while, when I'm thinking of my dad. I will turn on some bluegrass and think back to how much I hated him dragging me to those festivals. Boy I wish I could go to one with my dad today. RIP Dad and Dr Stanley!!
