unless he is bringing the Cincy Swish team with him, they are going to struggle. There is absolutely no size and no numbers and very little basketball IQ. Outside of Johnson, and she can average 25ppg, there isn't a lot of talent to compete in the district with Holmes & HC. They didn't have enough kids to have a JV or FROSH team last year.

Yes, 0-10 followed by 1-10 records for CovCath football! Since then they have won 6 or 7 state titles. You have to build a program. Gramke will build the Beechwood program, but he has the advantage in basketball of only needing one or two good players. And parents will want their kids to go to Beechwood because he is the coach. There are tons of good players and their parents looking to transfer as we speak (see Notre Dame Academy) who would fit in really well in a Gramke-coached system. And Gramke coached with Nancy Winstel, who is very involved at NDA. 2 + 2 = 4.

Funny. It's an afterthought, but yet we have two pages now here on BGP about Beechwood girls basketball. All because they hired Chris Gramke. Guess his presence is already paying dividends in the PR dept.

Nope. Enjoy bright sunny days. Just don't think it will be as easy as you think it will or happen as fast as you think. You say kids will want to come play for him. Well I have two daughters, been in AAU forever and have never heard of the guy. Again, not a knock on him at all! I'm sure he's great. But my guess is he has a lot of building to do before kids start flocking to beechwood. That's all I'm saying. I call a spade a spade and like to discuss. You say he will have success soon because of his system and experience. I say until he has kids that love basketball, have some skills and are athletic, those things don't matter. That just isn't at Beexhwood right now. THEY ONLY HAVE 4 KIDS RETURNING FROM LAST YEAR. Luckily for him and Beechwood one of them is very good. You can't make honey without the bees!

 

So I have a pretty nice freshman player. What makes me want to bring my kid to beechwood? I've never heard of the guy and they 4 kids total right now. I would stay as far away from that situation as possible until it was proven. And I'm not saying it won't eventually. I'm saying no one is going to take that chance until it is proven and people know who he is. If this was Ohio, maybe it would happen a little faster because of his history with high school and AAU.

 

And I guess my other question is "why Beechwood?" If he is as good as you say, why did he walk into that situation. No ad and 4 returning players. Wouldn't he be able to pretty much go where ever he wanted. Again, we are talking about a small high school that isn't known for basketball and has very low participation. Why would he go there. Maybe he just enjoys a challenge. It's not a situation that most coaches with his kind of experience would go after.

 

It sounds like a great hire for beechwood and I wish them all the luck in the world. You and I just differ in opinion on how fast it will happen...or even if it will. I hope it does.

No, it's not his PR. It's you're marketing skills and all because you seem to feel he's going to solve world peace at beechwood in a year. The discussion isn't about him or beechwood. I think we all feel it's a good hire. It's about placing way too high of expectations on him to turn something around that quick. It's not like he's walking into a school that is overly hungry to be good in girls Bball. It's never been. That culture isn't going to change in a few short years unless you have a plethora of athletes walking the halls. They are a small school, so the athletes are already limited. And most don't care about basketball there. So unless you are counting on transfers, it just ain't happening soon...regardless how good he and his system is.

Takes a special person to coach at NDA, a lot of things to deal with there not saying its a bad thing but the dynamics are just different.

Looking at his credentials, I am impressed Beechwood was able to get him. When a coach has a long track record of success, I believe he will be successful in any situation. It may take time but it will happen. I have to believe there are enough talented ladies in the building at Beechwood to make a competitive basketball team if you can get them to play. Congratulations and best wishes for success Coach Gramke and Lady Tigers.

You just answered your own question. Because Winstel knows NDA is a complete mess, she would not want him to have to deal with all the crybaby parents and other outside influences that have made NDA impossible. Beechwood was perfect for Gramke.

Your certainly have a sad outlook on things, and I feel badly for you. It sounds like you might be a Gramke-hater as well. That is fine, you have an opinion, I have mine.
