If they are illegal why are they getting anything at all?

Cashing in: Illegal immigrants get $1,261 more welfare than American families, $5,692 vs. $4,431 | Washington Examiner

Its not thats I'm against helping people but shouldnt we put native born families first ?

First, I'm not disputing the numbers. But, there are a few things that I question when looking at this article. The first thing, is after the headline and first paragraph, the rest of the article lumps legal and illegal immigrants together. Why would legal immigrants receiving benefits be considered part of the "problem"? Why even mention legal immigrants if the focus of the article is supposed to be the "drain" that illegal immigrants are to the system?

Second, every time illegals and welfare benefits are mentioned, the talk is about how much they are costing taxpayers. There's neverany mention to what their contributions are to the system. Most that are collecting paycheck ARE paying taxes through payroll deductions, as well as sales taxes for every purchase they make, not mention the economies created by simply working. I'd be curious to those numbers and would be willing to bet they are more than covering the "expense" that they are creating, just by being consumers/working in the communities they reside.

I think there's way more to the story than "how much" they are collecting.

And none of this is to say that we don't need some reform in our border policies. We do. But making these folks out to be villains and drains on the system isn't exactly telling the whole story.

If they are illegal why are they getting anything at all?

Because we have to be sure we are politically correct. And the Dems get the votes from their legal families.

Because democrats say so . They have been in control by actual numbers or persuasion for nearly 20 years . And our country is showing the results .

Always wondered about this as well, if they are illegal, how did they get a SS# to be able to pay taxes?

Remember Reagan and Bush Sr both enacted sweeping amnesty policies and Bush JR, while not proposing amnesty, wanted to bring illegals "out of the shadows" by making it easier for those working to get green cards, thereby allowing them to receive benefits and thereby giving them time to become citizens. To say this is a system created solely by the Dems is being disingenuous, and ignoring the fact that the Republicans are just as culpable over the last 35 years.

Its only became a monster in terms of numbers/cost the past 10 years . Nice try though .

And again, you keep mentioning costs. What about what they add to the economy, especially in industries like construction and agriculture?? You willing to pay more for food?? What about housing or to have your house repaired?? Deport all of them, and suddenly we are looking at higher prices, less sales taxes collected, lower revenues across the board because of the lost purchasing power of that segment. And, the immigrants working and collecting a paycheck are contributing through payroll deductions to the social security base.

All these reasons above, are why no president (or congress, or at the state level) over the last 3 (and probably more) decades are willing to make substantial changes to immigration policy. Like it or not there would be a huge negative effect on our economy. You may hate the costs... But you're not complaining about the benefits. It's not as simple as saying "let's round em all up and send them home"

Near the end of the article it specifies that illegal immigrants are not eligible for welfare but that this survey is counting as illegal those families in which the parents may be here illegally but receiving aid based on their dependent children who were born here.

Perfect synopsis from the lefties why everything is A OK . There I go bringing up cost again. A Billion here , a Billion there , it adds up to real money . Wait I forgot , they are actually benefiting us , not costing us anything !

In CA, its mandated.

Both parties are culpable. The DEMs want the votes, and the GOP, influenced by Industrial Agriculture, want the cheap labor. Now we have let this gone on so long, that this group will now be able to vote themselves benefits.

Does anybody know how many illegal immigrants we have incarcerated at about $40 K per year??

I readily acknowledge the costs. They exist, and you can't deny that. But like it or not, immigrants provide a significant boost to our economy, and provide a large labor force, and help keep prices down especially in agriculture and construction. I can answer with the same thing...a billion here and a billion there...it does add up quickly. And are you willing to pay more for everyday items (possibly significantly in some cases), shutter small businesses that depend on the labor, and take billions of $'s out of our economy by removing all immigrants, while spending billions to to do so?? This isn't a vacuum...removing immigrants from our economy is going to have a negative effect. I'm not sure why that's so hard to understand, and why we aren't focusing on both the costs and benefits.
