Hope she will get to play here whole H.S. career in U.S. I know that the Japanese families usually only stay 4 - 5 years due to the work restrictions. We lost a couple of young tennis players that would have been really good next year and beyond.

 

Sort of hate that for the kids. They seem to adjust pretty quickly to the U.S. lifestyle and enjoy being in the states. Maybe for older kids it might be different, but at the middle school or younger stage, they adapt quickly and at least in MC the other kids take them in and help them along pretty well (especially if they play sports).

She just moved here from Japan. I think she just hooked on to one of the Kaos teams in NKy. Kid is good. My daughter plays on a top five ASA travel team in the country. Only say that to let you know I've seen really good players. She is fast, obviously been super trained in Japan and can slap and hit. I'm most impressed with her defensive fundamentals. And again, I think she's only an 8th grader.

Will tell you and give props to Owen county catcher tonight as she was thrown out stealing second on a very close play. But she did score from second in the 7 th for a 2 to 1 win, on a short single to left.

 

Well that Owen County Catcher must be incredible because from what I have read this kid is pretty fast. Of Course, I am aware of a freshmen in Jefferson County, who has now stolen 16 bases against all teams in the top 20 in the state, not been thrown out once and she's pretty fast. Would like to match them up together!

Why do always try to minimize every kid that you don't know??? Only the kids that you are aware of are able to get any credit??? This kid is good for any 8th grader! And yes I know talent. My daughter has played all over the country and her team was ranked top 5 in Asa at the 16u level last year. I also coach high school softball. This kid is very good by anyone's standards!

It seems you just don't respect any team in Northern Ky, I think you know who Cooper was playing, a very solid Newport Catholic team who represented the 9th region in the all A. We have some very good teams, Highlands, Noter Dame, etc, and have them all on the schedule, unfortunately some of those games won't be played because of the extreme amount of rain. And as for your comment about Owen County catcher, yes, she is very good, once again I know the young lady don't play for a top five team, but she can still be very good.

You are correct, and I need to hold back comments or judgment until I see her play. Regardless, I need to temper my comments because I am sure she is a nice, hard working kid. I just am always skeptical of huge stats until I see someone play in person.

There is great softball in that area, and I have never suggested otherwise so perhaps my comments should have included Highlands in that list. Didn't realize that they were playing Newport Catholic, which I know if a strong program.

Completely understand where you're coming from. I am as skeptical as anyone. I know the coaches personally and know they would not report false stats. And they seem high to me as well, but the kid is very good, very fast and great instincts. You can tell she was DRILLED with fundamentals and discipline in Japan. Cooper may not play the top schedule and her stats may not be that crazy if she was playing against the top teams everyday, but she can only play who is on her schedule. Another reason why college recruiters don't even glance at high school stats. But I can assure you that she can play and excel for just about any team at her age group. She is that skilled. Still needs to get stronger, but I think you can say that about just about every 8th grader.

Without a doubt, which is why I need to temper my comments. Heck, there is such great softball across this state, that it is easy for some of us to get "protective" about our own areas of the state. So the Northern Kentucky folks get defensive towards the Western Kentucky folks and Jefferson County folks get defensive towards Northern Kentucky, etc. But they're playing great softball in every corner of the state so we should all just sit back and enjoy all of the teams and players.
